The White House’s most high-profile journalistic foe, CNN’s Jim Acosta, had an awkward, passive aggressive exchange with Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to close out the work week on Friday afternoon.
Acosta began by asking about Trump’s mysterious “calm before the storm” remark. He asked if the President intentionally makes what Acosta termed “off-putting comments” to keep his adversaries on their toes.
“Absolutely,” Sanders said. She added, “I don’t think that’s a secret.”
Acosta began asking a follow-up, but was sidetracked when he saw Sanders react to the query.
“When people…sort of catch their breath in this town, and hold their breath in this town and he says something like that…”
Acosta’s words trailed off as he saw Sanders smiling.
“You have a smile on your face,” Acosta said. “Is that somehow satisfying?”
Sanders pleaded guilty.
“I picture people in the town holding their breath. That might be a welcome surprise for most of America,” she said.
