WH Spox on Trump Skipping WHCA Dinner: Would You Buy Cookies From Girl Scout Who Egged Your House?
Appearing on ABC’s This Week today, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked about President Donald Trump’s recent declaration that he was skipping the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. And she gave a pretty interesting answer.
She first highlighted that Trump wasn’t elected to hobnob with celebs and journalists.
“This wasn’t a president that was elected to spend his time with reporters and celebrities,” Huckabee Sanders stated. “This is a president who campaigned on speaking directly to Americans, and that’s what he’s going to spend his time doing.”
After saying it was “naive” to believe that there wouldn’t be any tension during the dinner, she then tossed off a folksy colloquialism referencing Girl Scouts.
“One of the things we say in the South,” she told host George Stephanopoulos. “If a Girl Scout egged your house, would you buy cookies from her? I think that this is a pretty similar scenario.”
