President Donald Trump made a of point of saying during Wednesday’s NATO news conference, that “I don’t know Putin.” He was, of course, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump made a habit of denying any relationship during the 2016 presidential election, and especially after allegations of Putin exerting influence on him became a newsworthy topic.
In 2013, however, Trump sang a much different tune, saying that they did have a relationship and “he’s done a very brilliant job in terms of what he represents and who he’s representing,” even citing relations with Syria as an example. Trump also got in a shot at Barack Obama, saying that Putin has “eaten our president’s lunch”:
