Bill Clinton: If POTUS Was a Democrat, Most People I Know Think We’d Be on Impeachment Hearings Already
While President Donald Trump routinely decries the Russia probe as a “witch hunt,” accusing the “fake news” media of fanning the flames, former President Bill Clinton suggested he’s actually gotten special treatment.
In an interview with Mo Rocca that aired on CBS Sunday Morning, Clinton defended reporters and said his colleagues think Trump would already be facing potential impeachment if he were a Democrat.
“I think they have tried, by in large, to cover this investigation based on the facts,” Clinton said of the press. “If there were a Democratic president and these facts were present, most people I know in Washington believe impeachment hearings would have begun already, and most people I know believe that the press would have been that hard or harder.”
As Trump continues to rage against journalists by whom he feels he’s been treated unfairly, Rocca cited the claim of Trump supporters that the press appears to be more adversarial toward the president now, after having “slobbered all over President Obama.”
“They did treat him differently than other Democrats and Republicans,” Clinton said. “They liked him and they liked having the first African American president and he was a good president, I think.”
During the interview, Clinton also discussed his own presidency and his new novel written with James Patterson, The President is Missing, which hits the shelves Monday.
