Dershowitz Argues No Judge Will Overturn Trump Conviction Out of Fear of Suffering His Fate: Being Shunned on Martha’s Vineyard

Alan Dershowitz suggested on Thursday that no judge would be willing to overturn former President Donald Trump’s guilty verdict for fear of being shunned on Martha’s Vineyard like he was when he represented the 45th president.

During an appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room, Dershowitz criticized the jury’s verdict – which found Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records – and said, “They got him and they got him good because he’s unlikely to even be able to successfully appeal.”

Dershowitz explained:

He has to appeal first through the New York system and the New York system are all judges that don’t wanna be responsible for freeing Donald Trump. These are people with their families. These are people who don’t wanna be Dershowitzed. People know what happened to me when I defended Donald Trump on the floor of the Senate. Nobody on Martha’s Vineyard would speak to me, Harvard Law School canceled me after I’d been there for 50 years, and judge’s don’t want that to happen to them. So I am not encouraged that he’ll get a fair appeal.

He concluded, “It’s possible, and ultimately maybe he’ll get to the Supreme Court, but by that time the election will be over.”

Dershowitz has repeatedly claimed he was shunned by neighbors on the wealthy Martha’s Vineyard after he defended Trump in 2018 and subsequently represented the president during his 2020 impeachment.

“I am a liberal Democrat in politics, but a neutral civil libertarian when it comes to the Constitution,” wrote Dershowitz in a 2018 article for The Hill.” But that is not good enough for some of my old friends on Martha’s Vineyard. For them, it is enough that what I have said about the Constitution might help Trump. So they are shunning me and trying to ban me from their social life on Martha’s Vineyard.”

In 2021, Dershowitz claimed he had been attacked by Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David during one altercation on the island.

“Larry David comes up to me on the porch of the Chilmark store and starts screaming at me,” he told Megyn Kelly. “I didn’t say a word, but he walked away screaming and yelling. His face turned red. I thought, he’s going to have a stroke.”

Last year, Dershowitz also claimed that former President Barack Obama skipped his birthday party and that his books had been banned from the Martha’s Vineyard book fair in response to his defense of Trump.
