Alabama senator-elect Doug Jones gave an interview on Thursday where he urged his opponent Roy Moore to accept his defeat.
Ever since Moore lost to Jones in this week’s special election, he has made a religious demonstration out of his refusal to concede, insisting that he will await the will of God. In the meantime, Jones spoke to Savannah Guthrie on TODAY, who asked him if he had a message for his former opponent.
“I understand the frustration a little bit,” Jones said. “It is a close race, but I’d say, look, it is time to move on.”
Jones went on to say that the people of Alabama have spoken, and that now is the time to start moving forward and healing the bitterness that surrounded the election.
“I think he’d do well to just go ahead and let’s get this behind us, so the people of Alabama can get someone in there and start working for them.”
