Fox’s Jacqui Heinrich: GOP ‘Flip Flop’ on Historic Border Deal Plays into Biden Narrative Republicans Are ‘Not Serious’
Fox News White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich was unsparing in her report on the Republican “flip flop” on a historic border deal that Steve Doocy said “we’ve been waiting a generation for.”
At issue is a border funding deal that Trump has reportedly directed his congressional surrogates to kill as it would be viewed as a win for President Joe Biden, which even the conservative Wall Street Journal called out for its cynicism.
Heinrich appeared on Friday’s Fox & Friends from the White House lawn and did a remarkable job in bringing viewers up to speed on the many partisan angles of this complicated story.
“Texas Senator Ted Cruz said that President Biden doesn’t need more money to secure the border because he could reimpose some Trump era policies that he says were effective at keeping migrants out,” she said at the end of her initial report before adding, “But of course, this flip flop from Senate GOP leadership does play right into the White House claim that Republicans are not serious about solving this issue that they have been sounding off about for the last couple of years.”
It’s noteworthy that a Fox News report would call the Republican Congressional leadership’s actions on this border legislation a “flip flop” and give credence to President Joe Biden’s rhetoric that the Republicans are “not serious” on solving this issue, evidenced by Trump reported direction of GOP members of congress to kill any border bill to help him politically.
“What we’ve heard is this bill that they’ve been working on in the Senate, it would be historic in nature and change everything,” Doocy said about the bill, the details of which have not been made public. “We’ve waited a generation for something like this. And then for the former president to say, don’t pass it because it would help the Democrats? It sounds like the White House is just ready to start saying, hey, we tried. Blame them.”
The crisis at the US southern border has been a major political issue under the Biden administration, which has faced harsh criticism for perceived inefficacy on the issue. But Trump’s reported direction to kill a deal and allow undocumented migrants and fentanyl to continue to flood the country because it helps him politically? That looks to give Biden some breathing room if not a potential political win.
