Tapper on Kathy Griffin’s Severed Trump Head Photo: ”It’s Pretty Disgusting’ and Inappropriate
Well, if you wanted to know how the folks at CNN would react in the wake of occasional host Kathy Griffin‘s highly criticized photo shoot featuring a mock severed head of President Donald Trump, anchor Jake Tapper gave us an indication this afternoon.
During a panel discussion on The Lead, Tapper brought up the topic, letting his audience know that he would be showing some graphic footage so they may want to get their kids out of the room. After pointing out that Griffin does the network’s New Year’s Eve broadcast, he weighed in on the image.
“It’s pretty disgusting,” he stated. “I can’t imagine how anybody would think that’s appropriate.”
Tapper added that Donald Trump Jr. commented on the photo and claimed that it represented the left and what they find acceptable discourse:
Disgusting but not surprising. This is the left today. They consider this acceptable. Imagine a conservative did this to Obama as POTUS? https://t.co/QdghcbIjS7

During the discussion, panelist and Trump supporter David Urban brushed off the pic, saying “we’ve got much bigger issues to focus on than Kathy Griffin.”
After the broadcast, Tapper tweeted out that “for those asking,” he addressed the Griffin situation on his show:
For those asking, I said on air that I thought the beheading imagery by Griffin about the president was disgusting and inappropriate.

For Griffin’s part, she has said that she doesn’t condone violence and was “merely mocking” with the photo. Meanwhile, she has faced widespread condemnation over her actions, with former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton joining in expressing outrage.
