Tom Steyer Claims Breach of Contract After Fox News Pulls Plug on Impeach Trump Ad

If you are a cable news viewer, you’ve probably seen the provocative television ad by California billionaire Tom Steyer that calls for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. For those who exclusively watch Fox News, you’ve likely noticed that commercial has been missing the past few days.

That is because the network decided on October 31st to pull the plug on it even though Steyer had purchased another week’s worth of ad time. And Steyer is now accusing Fox News of breach of contract.

While appearing on MSNBC’s All In on Friday, the hedge fund manager/progressive activist told host Chris Hayes that Fox “refused to fulfill their contract with us” and wondered aloud if it was due to a “request from the White House.” After the ad began running, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to rail against Steyer and his commercial.

Steyer’s lawyers sent a letter to Fox News on Friday that said the network “capitulated to political pressure from the Trump administration itself” and that Fox’s decision to pull the ads amounted to ” a breach of agreement.” Furthermore, Steyer’s lawyers argued that the network owed its viewers an explanation for why it canceled the commercials.

Fox News has confirmed that the ad was pulled from the air. “Due to the strong negative reaction to their ad by our viewers, we could not in good conscience take their money,” co-president Jack Abernethy said in a statement.
