Trump Once Said ‘There’s a Big Difference’ Between Wall and Fence. Now, ‘It’s All the Same Thing’
President Donald Trump spoke reporters in the Oval Office on Christmas morning about the government shutdown over his demand for $5 billion to build a border wall, insisting it would not end until some sort of barrier was funded.
“I can’t tell you when the government is going to reopen,” Trump told reporters. “I can tell you it’s not going to be open until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they’d like to call it. I’ll call it whatever they want. But it’s all the same thing. It’s a barrier from people pouring into our country.”
This shouldn’t surprise anyone, but Trump’s position in the wall vs. fence debate has softened considerably. Back during the presidential campaign in 2015, Trump issued this tweet in a rebuke of his opponent Jeb Bush:
“Jeb Bush just talked about my border proposal to build a ‘fence.’ It’s not a fence, Jeb, it’s a WALL, and there’s a BIG difference!”

So what is it: “BIG difference” or “it’s all the same thing”? We’re assuming Ann Coulter would side with the former.
