While this weekend is the first anniversary of Donald Trump taking the office of President of the United States, it also represents one year since the Women’s March on Washington. That march was accompanied by hundreds of sister rallies in cities across the country.
Today, hundreds of thousands of women are taking place in Women’s March rallies all around the nation to not only commemorate last year’s event, but to also keep the movement that it sparked going. Washington D.C., of course, is holding a march. Just ahead of the start of the rally, over 12,000 people had RSVP’d they were attending on the event’s Facebook page, with another 21,000 stating they were interested.
Some of the notable people expected to speak at the D.C. rally are Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), DNC Chair Tom Perez, EMILY’s List vice-president for outreach Muthoni Wambu Kraal and Woman’s National Democratic Club president Nucchi Currier.
According to CNN, other areas expecting large turnouts were Los Angeles, New York City, Las Vegas and Sundance Film Festival. The Vegas rally will serve as a national voter registration event. Speakers expected at this rally are Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), Our Revolution president Nina Turner, Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza and Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards.
