Donald Trump Wins Florida
A crucial swing state with a whopping 29 electoral votes, Florida can singlehandedly determine the outcome of the election, as it did in the 2000 election. A Trump victory is virtually impossible without a win in the Sunshine State.
As of Monday afternoon, the RealClearPolitics average of the most recent Florida polls showed Clinton and Trump locked in a statistical tie. Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight gave Clinton a 51.7% percent chance of winning the state.
Most of the polls in Florida close Tuesday night at 7 p.m. eastern time. We will update with the reported results as soon as they come in.
Here’s how Florida voted in the last four presidential elections:
2012: Democrat (50.0%)
2008: Democrat (51.0%)
2004: Republican (52.1%)
2000: Republican (48.8%)
UPDATE 3:16 PM ET: Per Votecastr’s model, with 74.9 percent of expected votes already cast in the state, Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by four points, 49% to 45%.
UPDATE 5:35 PM ET: Per latest Votecastr estimates, Clinton continues to hold a four-point lead, 49% to 45%.
UPDATE 7:40 PM ET: Returns show Donald Trump holding a one-point lead, 49% to 48%. Vote totals are 2,399,725 to 2,331,835.
UPDATE 7:59 PM ET: Hillary Clinton takes over the lead, 50% to 47%. She currently enjoys a 167,000 vote advantage.
UPDATE 8:22 PM ET: Florida is now essentially tied, 49% to 48%. Trump holds a small 14,000 vote lead.
UPDATE 10:54 PM ET: The Associated Press projects Donald Trump as the winner of Florida.
