Former Fox News Contributor Says She Left Because of Lack of Debate (Update)

video

Picture 22This morning on Reliable Sources Howard Kurtz, former Fox News contributor Jane Hall shared her own personal criticisms of Fox News, saying that she wasn’t bothered so much by Fox’s Republican bent as the network’s lack of discussion and debate. She added that she’s outright scared of Glenn Beck.

Jane Hall: The reason I left [Fox News] is because I think they have less debate than they used to but it is a fair point to say how much debate is there on MSNBC … we have a bifurcation of the media.

Howard Kurtz: The reason you left is because you think they have less debate than they used to? In other words, it used to be Hannity and Colmes, not it’s just Hannity …

Hall: I think there’s less debate than there was, and I’m also frankly uncomfortable Beck, who I think should be called out as somebody whose language is way over the top and it’s scary. [8:20 ff]

Kurtz welcomed two other guests to rehash (for the umpteenth time) the recent exchanges between Fox News and the White House. The panel covered all of its bases, discussing the Obama-Nixon comparison and FNC’s [accidental] exclusion from the Pay Czar pool interview.

Nico Pitney, national editor of the Huffington Post, pretty much toed the party line, calling Fox News a “24-hour campaign against the Obama administration.” The Washington TimesAmanda Carpenter channeled George Stephanopoulos from last week, saying the White House’s strategy is backfiring and the other networks have no choice but the cover the back and forth.

To be fair, though, Kurtz can spend as much time as he wants on the Fox-White House tiff because he really blew it open on his show three weeks ago.

Update: A Fox News spokesperson tells Mediaite Hall’s contract was not renewed.

Jane Hall also said she is not a liberal; but the best and funniest line of the morning segment with this panel was when Howie said: “Gloria Borger is a straight news analyst”! when mentioning her name as one of the participants in the gaggle with Olbermann, Maddow, et al and Obama. Gloria is as liberal as they come and Howie should not pretend otherwise.

Awww… Jane is gone?! Darn… I liked her. Her segment with Bernie Goldberg (on O’Reilly) were very good.

    Oh well…

Zeke?…you mean…like the rehashing that you and MEDIAITE do?

Yesterday you wanted to get into the semantics behind the word ’storm’ and today you want to talk about the difference between blog content and cable news. Looking forward to what’s next!

Of course, here is Mediaite using the “fair and balanced” method of reporting, calling THE TRUTH the party line rather than what it is. When the real story is that a self proclaimed MODERATE quits Fox News for its imbalance and scariness, Turner is turning it into the crossfire of opinion that Fox News wants. Pitney is telling the truth and Kurtz and the panel disregard the proven fact that Fox News editorializes its news in addition to their completely one sided opinion programs. I thought their might be real reporting since Abrams was in charge but I guess not. MacNicol and Krakauer are conservative hack reporters too.

With Roger Ailes controlling the “colloquy” at Fox “News” there is no need or call for debate. The only discussion that takes place is how to construct the propaganda.

You mean the internal memos he sends out?

Jane is not a moderate… she is a left-of-center Democrat. Perhaps not a “Liberal,” but certainly not a centrist either. That was her purpose on FOX, to provide left-wing opinion and analysis… she will be replaced.

As for the rest of what you said… You apparently have trouble telling the difference between “fact” and “opinion.” Here’s a link so you can read up on the two: http://mcckc.edu/longview/ctac/opinion.htm

Now, of course, when the question of “debate” comes up, we could reference MSNBC who has a prime-time host who refuses to speak with guests who disagree with him. We could reference the many many many times over the years that CNN and the network news has stacked the deck against the right-of-center guest. But we all know where that would lead… no where. The lefty bloggers would put their fingers in their ears and say “NANANANA CAN”T HEAR YOU!” and then start shouting about FOX again. So… we move on…

Interesting update. I wonder if Hall was interviewing for a job at CNN with her appearance. Shame on her for being less than honest about leaving FNC.

Poor Jane. I wonder if she left Fox News of her own accord? Here’s a news flash, Janie-girl: Some of us are “scared” of the Megalomaniac in the White House and his strange gaggle of communists, marxists, and “Hugo Chavez Radicals.” Good riddance to Jane Hall. There are Liberals and then there are UBER-Liberals like Jane. Sayonara!

  • Chuck Steele says:

What is it about the flaming liberals in the press that they insist on trying to convince themselves, and then us that they are moderate? I guess that it is ok that they try to fool themselves, but let us decide for ourselves. You folks just write and babel and we will put you in the pigeon hole you belong in.

  • m m says:

Chuck and Sunnyr pretty much prove that conservatives have gotten so far-right that moderates are considered liberal to them. No wonder the Republican party is having issues.

  • Jelperman Jelperman says:

She probably got fed up with Falafel O’Reilly cutting her mike.

  • rmbltmbl rmbltmbl says:

right right.. typical liberal tactics m..

  • CRZ CRZ says:

“FOX News Watch” hasn’t been nearly as interesting without Eric Burns and Neal Gabler and I’m afraid it will also suffer without Jane Hall.

  • ImNotBlue ImNotBlue says:

Eh… I wasn’t surprised when the let Burns go (they don’t like uni-taskers at FOX… and all Burns did was that 30 minute show). When Gabler left, I was pleased, because he was insulting and rude to the other guests and the audience. But I liked Hall… sad to see her leave.

Anyway… M… what makes someone a “moderate,” what makes them a “Liberal,” what makes them a “Conservative?” See, while you claim that these people are “moderates,” that too could be a result of your left-wing mentality. You see yourself as “left of center” so someone who agrees mostly with you, must be a “moderate.” Everyone else, therefore, is far-right. But you’re farther left than you think you are… at least IMO.

Bill O’Reilly Defends Fox News News VP Who Gave His Tea Party Opinion

    video

Bill O'Reilly spent several segments last night discussing the tea party movement and attempting to defend Fox News VP of News and Washington managing editor Bill Sammon for his blanket statement about the mainstream media's 'hatred' of the partying. It included a contentious interview with Politico executive editor Jim VandeHei, a talk with Brit Hume (who previously held Sammon's job) and a "Talking Points" opening (including some 'original reporting').

Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart Fail to Eviscerate Sarah Palin

Hyperbole must be over. How else does one explain the extremely disappointing bits that Jon Stewart and Keith Olbermann did on Sarah Palin last night? Handed (thank you, I'm here all week) 3 days of Palin material that rivaled anything George W. Bush ever gave them, Olbermann could barely manage a molecule of spittle, let alone a lather, and Stewart deployed his seldom-used Nerf™ jokes.
