Sarah Ferguson’s Very Sad (And Sort Of Endearing) Interview With Oprah
Poor Sarah Ferguson. Ferguson appeared on Oprah to explain how exactly she landed herself in the midst of a tabloid scandal for attempting to sell access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew for thousands of dollars.
The resulting interview was sort of painful to watch in so far as Ferguson is clearly a woman who is not in control of her life. She told Oprah she was drunk when the encounter took place, but that that was no excuse, and the she hoped this incident will free “Sarah from the treadmill of her life.” Ferguson spoke about herself in the third person a number of times during the interview, most notably (and alarmingly) after watching — for the first time — the News of World video of her encounter with the undercover reporter.
That Oprah had a great deal of sympathy for her subject was evident, but even more evident was Oprah’s amazement over the dire state of Ferguson’s finances: her expression of disbelief that the Duchess of York had agreed to a $20,000/year divorce settlement was priceless. In fact Ferguson’s lack of finance remained a theme for the hour. Watch some highlights below.
