Scott Brown On House Health Care Bill: “The Biggest Problem…Is Its Lack Of Transparency”

video

Last night when Chris Matthews discussed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s idea of a “Deem and Pass” to get the health reform bill pushed through Congress, his main concern was that it would open up Democrats to criticism that they were being a little bit sneaky and evasive in their effort to get this whole health care matter settled. And he wasn’t wrong: Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown was on The Situation Room tonight, already chomping at the bit to discuss the “backroom deals….political chicanery and parliamentary maneuvers” that the House majority was using to “ram this bill through.”

Brown’s being a little evasive himself here: Saying at one point that he can only speak for himself, and not what all Senate Republicans will do, and then threatening in the very next breath that “You’re going to get a health care bill that’s going to be challenged potentially by the Attorney Generals in the state on it’s constitutionality.” Not that he has an opinion one way or another about it.

So what is it Senator Brown? And have you spoken about why you like the Massachusetts health care system?

I do not mean to nitpick but:
    champ at the bit
    * to bite the bit, especially when restless; (of a person) to show impatience or frustration when delayed.

    Where is the editor?

“You’re going to get a health care bill that’s going to be challenged potentially by the Attorney Generals in the state on it’s constitutionality.” That is a fact, not an opinion.

Will HRC be challenged for political posturing by some Republicans? Of course. Will the challenge accomplish anything but empty state coffers? No. Political question. That, too, is a fact.

It’s best for everyone, especially Senator Brown, that he talk to the press as little as possible. He’s fast becoming a male Sarah Palin, although, admittedly, he is a much better looking man that she is a woman.

  • Olby Sucks

Where’s the transparency? Why all the secrecy regarding illegals? What does college tuition have to do with hcr?

TRRK…why would Hillary Rodham Clinton be challenged?

    heh

Yeah, it is your own facts Bingo Boy. You are a armchair pundit who makes comments. BFD

@TRRK: I’m sorry, but I just don’t see where you get the Palin comparison.

Admittedly as someone who has lived in Massachusetts off and on for the past quarter century, though I’m a Democrat and count among my friends people who served on Ted Kennedy’s staff, I’ve actually supported (conceptually) a couple of Massachusetts Republicans.

With that said, thus far, I’m not finding a whole lot objectionable about their newest Senator. Sure, I wrote a blogpost and have commented once or twice questioning the foundation of a some statistics that he was using during the campaign, but I don’t fault him for buying something from someone many consider a somewhat legitimate source.

Now perhaps, if he started basing legislative decisions on wrong assumptions or if he were to over-indulge in party line Kool Aid, I might change my stance, but during recent history, I’ve considered the Massachusetts Republican Party a necessary check on political power and though he hasn’t done a lot, I’m not ready to write him off or oppose him on strictly a party basis.

IOW: You may see Palin, but I see the potential for a more charismatic Olympia Snowe.
(And Coakley was a horrible, uninspired, “entitled” candidate)

PS) And politically, there’s nothing anyone would be able to do, or any changes that could possibly be made at this stage of the game that would get Sen. Brown to vote for Health Care Reform. (Though, he may be able to vote favorably on a parliamentary procedure) Opposition to reform became one of the planks of his platform, though it may have been thrust upon him, but politically, he doesn’t have a lot of choice.

Magister: The comparison starts and stops withe the stunning inability to just shut up. Both seem to respond to everything, and their responses always turn into ramblefests in which they inflict multiple wounds upon themselves.

@TRRK: I thought he did well in the clip.
He was charming, unjaded, threw no bombs and made no obvious mistakes.

But then again, I’m from the Chris Matthews school; It’s all in the game.

That is exactly your problem too Robert, whether it is under your TRRK commenting name or your many variations of Mr.BovineKoldys.
