After a streak that, I think, endured the whole of human history, the subject of bestiality has now come up twice during White House briefings this month. In a quasi-friendly exchange this afternoon, ABC News Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper let out some annoyance at Press Secretary Jay Carney for skipping around the room, and sarcastically told Carney “No, America wants to know about your position on bestiality,” a reference to a Les Kinsolving question from last week.

A new viral attack video by WorldNetDaily‘s Molotov Mitchell that savages former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, mostly over his personal life, has been blasted to registered Republicans and Independents all over Iowa, according to a press release. The video is pegged to Gingrich’s three marriages, and his refusal to sign The Family Leader‘s controversial “Marriage Vow,” but the punchline is the disturbing sight of Newt Gingrich’s head on Kim Kardashian‘s body. There’s no way to un-see that.

At Monday’s White House briefing, Press Secretary Jay Carney tried to show a little Christmas generosity by calling on WorldNetDaily correspondent Les Kinsolving near the top of the briefing. For his trouble, Carney is now under fire from PETA for supposedly “making light of bestiality” because he laughed at, and waved off, Kinsolving’s less-than-seriously-phrased question about a defense authorization bill that repealed the sodomy provision of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

It turns out that a recent “birther” sign — which also appeared at the recent Iowa debate in the form of a large billboard — comes courtesy of the folks over at WorldNetDaily, who are not quite the greatest fans of Obama. Maddow described their mission as essentially “trying to make a buck off the more gullible elements of the conservative base.”

She then pointed to some of the group’s previous projects, such as their reports on the need to wage a war on Islam itself rather than on terrorists acting under their own fundamentalist interpretations. Maddow brought on Wired‘s Spencer Ackerman, who broke a rather amazing series of reports about how the person behind that WorldNetDaily report has been instructing FBI counter-terrorism officers using ideas prevalent in what Maddow describes as the fringe of the right wing.

In a bit of news that’s news to no one, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton threw cold water on the possibility that she might mount a primary challenge to President Obama, then froze that water. Asked Friday, by CNN’s Alison Kosik, if she would consider running in 2012, Clinton said the chances of that were “below zero.”

Conservative website (and Birther hub) WorldNetDaily has published what can only be described as “process server porn,” posting a cell phone pic of MSNBC star Rachel Maddow at the moment she was served a lawsuit. Maddow is being sued by “Christian rocker” Bradlee Dean for, among other things, pointing out the spelling of his first [...]

Sigh. I don’t want to type this. My fingers are rebelling against me. This is like the blogging equivalent of visiting your high school years after you graduate. I remember how things used to be, but it just feels wrong to be here now. How is it May of 2011 and I’m still typing articles about Donald Trump and President Obama’s birth certificate? Can’t he spend his time on something important like finally looking into those fishy “the earth is round” claims? (UPDATE: Good news! The report is false. See bottom of post for more)

It’s been nearly three years since President Obama took office, and yet doubt apparently remains over his eligibility to be president. On his radio show, Sean Hannity stood up for the “crucified and beat up and smeared and besmirched” birther groups with guests Joseph Farah of WorldNetDaily and Hamas attorney Stanley Cohen suggesting that, if Chester A. Arthur had to prove he wasn’t Canadian, why shouldn’t Obama have to do the same?

Recently, former SNL cast member and Tea Party anthem singer Victoria Jackson was appalled that this week’s episode of Glee featured two gay characters locking lips. She took to the Internet, writing a blistering post on WorldNetDaily.com in which she called the kiss “sickening.” The folks at HLN read between the lines of that post and were able to translate it as “Someone please put me in front of television cameras right now!”

On Sunday, I reported that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor refused to reject Birther “crazy talk” on Meet the Press. At Monday’s White house briefing, I asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs if he thought that Republican leaders had a duty to put the kibosh on Birther talk, and whether the President would do the same were the positions reversed. Gibbs responded that “rational people” don’t question the President’s citizenship, and pointed to Obama’s own record regarding his opponent’s status.

With Gov. Neil Abercrombie‘s (D-HI) now-open-ended resurrection of the Birther issue, expect to see more of the embarrassing scene that played out on Sunday morning’s Meet the Press: Republican leaders trying to distance themselves from the conspiracy theorists, without alienating them. Rep. Eric Cantor danced around host David Gregory‘s challenge to reject Birthers like an amateur snake-charmer with a bladder full of Mountain Dew. Deliberately or not, Abercrombie just might be some kind of political genius.

Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie’s one-man crusade to end the “controversy” over President Obama’s birth certificate has hit a dead-end that is sure to delight WorldNetDaily, Orly Taitz, and legions of Birthers everywhere. The Governor’s office told the Associated Press that Hawaii’s privacy laws prevent Abercrombie from pursuing the matter any further.

Aside from his implication that the Obama administration is capable of murdering Abercrombie, Rush Limbaugh might have a kernel of a point about who this helps.

The woman who interrupted the reading of the US Constitution on the floor of the House of Representatives Thursday to shout “birther” protestations has now been identified, by Capitol Police, as Theresa Cao, a colorful DC resident who often haunts the sidewalks of Pennsylvania ave outside the White House.

During my latest interview with World Net Daily’s Les Kinsolving (publishing later today), he boasted that he is the only reporter to have asked Robert Gibbs about President Obama‘s birth certificate…twice. At yesterday’s White House briefing, Les went for the hat trick, asking a question about Obama’s Social Security number, but sprinkling in a reference to the certificate. This coincides with the latest “scoop” to crawl out from under WND, a Hawaii elections official who’s making his own bid for Birther fame.

Now, there’s something you don’t see every day. At yesterday’s briefing, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs turned the tables on World Net Daily correspondent Les Kinsolving, grilling Les for nearly five minutes over what constitutes a press conference.  Even stranger, about halfway through their exchange, Kinsolving actually drew applause from the press corps. I haven’t seen a reaction like that since Gibbs suggested holding a briefing in the Rose Garden.
