Chris Matthews Has Never Been “Felt Up” At Airport, Thinks TSA Controversy Has Been “Ginned Up” By The Right

video

Chris Matthews certainly seems less upset about the new TSA measures than a lot of the folks we’ve heard from. Instead, he thinks the Right has been “ginning up” the controversy and that the alternate would be worse, imagining the reaction “five minutes” after a terrorist attack if the Obama administration hadn’t set up strict security measures. Really though, the reaction would be a thousand times worse if there was a terrorist attack with these protocols.

Later in the show, he and Eugene Robinson discussed their own trips through airport security and how it really isn’t that bad. Robinson said he didn’t mind the body scanner while Matthews promised that he had never once been “felt up” by the guards. In fact, the only thing he did mind was the part where he had to show his driver’s license. Matthews felt that part was “Mickey Mouse” because there are so many fake licenses floating around.

And, so, the debate over whether the TSA procedures are “Mickey Mouse,” “Goofy,” or “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit” rages on.

Tingle’s, ya work for a tv news channel, you don’t have access to the coverage of all the people (nuns, kids, patients, etc) on fricking FILM getting groped, prodded and felt up? Sweet jesus you are such an apologist for this administration, doesn’t your ass ever get sore???

  • Dosser

It seems the American people value safety over their own sensibility’s.

It would not matter who the president was if this happened. People would be up in arms with or without the new measures. This is a no win situation. People with common sense will realize that NOTHING is 100% but the rest will swear that MORE could be done.

Yes, you are right about these examples but out of the millions that travel there will always be a few that are treated with disrespect.

    OH COME ON MATTHEWS.

Is it seriously that big of a problem for you to believe that the TSA thing is both a problem and a serious infringement on our personal rights? I like you and your giant forehead, but COME ON MAN. Just because this is an issue that Republicans in particular are all up in arms about doesn’t mean you can’t agree with them.

On another note, this whole conversation would have been completely flipped if this were done under a Republican administration. Just goes to show, pundits don’t care for the actual issues. They just care about which side of the argument their “team” falls.

  • Big Eddie

    There’s a simple solution . All American . Hot dogs , Apple pie , and :

Tell me it ain’t so Chris…the tingle killed your leg and you can’t feel a good grope anymore. That’s sad, very sad.

  • writer

The TSA workers probably fight over who has to frisk Chris. The loser has to do it.

  • TfT

Is this the same Chris Matthews who threw hizzy fits when Bush approved eavesdropping on the terrorists?

What a bunch of pathetic liberal elite, double standard, idiots on the air at MSNBC.

CROTCH-GROPING IS FOR THE LITTLE PEOPLE: TSA: Some gov’t officials to skip airport security. “Cabinet secretaries, top congressional leaders and an exclusive group of senior U.S. officials are exempt from toughened new airport screening procedures when they fly commercially with government-approved federal security details.” Yeah, that’ll go over well. (via instapundit)

Just like they threw hissy fits about waterboarding the baddies, but give hehimself a pass when he ordered the assassination of an American citizen (albehe a terrorist).

MSNBC – the place for DNC propaganda.

from the article you linked: “This poll was conducted among a random sample of 1,137 adults nationwide, interviewed by telephone November 7-10, 2010. Phone numbers were dialed from RDD samples of both standard land-lines and cell phones.”

Try surveying people that fly. You’ll get a much different answer. Nice try though.

That is EXACTLY correct. The liberals don’t give a flying fuck about anything except what they are told they are SUPPOSED to care about. Hence, code pink screams at Bush but says shit to Obama even though he’s killing a lot more people, now it’s ok to have your civil liberties trampled but it was egregious under a Republican, criticizing a sitting U.S. President is patriotic when that Pres is a republican but it’s unamerican if you do it to THIS president. (actually it’s racist too)….

Liberals have no spines and no moral compass, they are easily lead like sheep to whatever th cause of the day is.

Ginned up by the right? Chris should watch that guy Olbermann who last night had a guy on that Keith agreed with that the pat downs have gone too far.

  • rocky road

Shultz and Matthews believe this is a far right issue. Guess they haven’t listened to Olbermann who is far left outraged. Also, what is the Palin obsession on MSNBC. Everytime you turn it on they are trashing Palin. What has got them so ginned up that they can’t go an hour without trashing her? Sort of creepy.

  • WildMan

Poor, poor Chrissy. Someone needs to tell him that nobody watches his show. He is the weak link in a weak lineup. Maybe he could try and find Blueberry Hill and go for one more thrill….up and down his leg since it doesn’t appear TSA is giving the flaming wacky liberal any leg love.

  • juan

Who is Chris Matthews and what is MSNBC?

    LoL

  • ChiliPeppersFan

man, we really are showing those terrorists they can’t mess with us. we are gonna get groped at airports and we are gonna enjoy it.

Well, timzank, I’m glad you agree with me.

But let’s also think about the conservatives, many of whom yelled at me to ‘support your President’ when I did a speech criticizing him in my speech class (I live in Georgia) and now currently want to see the impeachment of Obama.

Can we just agree that people in general are sheep?

    Done:

“The ABC News poll also suggests that opposition to the measures is higher among those who fly regularly. Among Americans who fly at least once a year, 58 percent support the new x-ray scanners, versus 70 percent of Americans who fly less often than that. Support for the new pat-down procedures is at 44 percent among fliers, meanwhile, versus 52 percent among those who do not fly regularly.”

It speaks for itself really.People don’t like the pat-downs.
    I don’t see what’s the big deal though,but that’s just me.

    You’re right.Olbermann was speaking against it.Either way….

“Eighty-one percent think airports should use these new machines — including a majority of both men and women, Americans of all age groups, and Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike. Fifteen percent said airports should not use them.”
    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20022876-503544.html

Keep the machines, get rid of the pat-downs.
    Sounds fair to me.

  • Probably NOT wrong

Matthews is going to take the opposite view on just about
any controversial subject if he thinks it will gain
him an extra half dozen viewers for a day or two.
    The guy is a flamer.

Chris Matthews thinks hang nails are a rightwing plot.

  • ChiliPeppersFan

it would suck to be on a plane that blew up and i would feel like shit if it happened to someone i love, but c’mon…how far are we going to go?

  • ChiliPeppersFan

i though we were going too far with the patriot act and just found out earlier, by beck of all people, that joe biden was the guy who drew that up back in ’95 after the ok city bombing.
i like biden, but c’mon joe

  • david r

Chris, you guys on the left keep defending TSA. We’ll see how that works out for ‘ya.

    channel-flipping tonite:

-Fox 7pm top story: the Morth Korean attach on South Korea
-Matthews’ first segment: the “ginned-up by the right” TSA controversy–with a teaser before to announce that stories #2 and #3 were about Sarah Palin not knowing how to read, and how poor exhausted Velma Hart lost her job.

and Fox is the fake news channel? come on. MSNBC is the Ok! Magazine of cable news.

  • michiganruth

er, NORTH Korea. I think MORTH Korea was pretty quiet today.

It’s so easy to make fun of the right wing – they’re so erratic. Last year they made a success of the Christmas Underwear Bomber’s spectacular failure, wondering how he got on board. This year, the right wing would help the Underwear Bomber board his flight and hand him a soft drink and a pillow.

Last year we were thankful his bomb didn’t work, we were disappointed he was allowed on an airplane after all the red flags that went up. This year we are still disappointed that Homeland Security/TSA will not profile people instead of using “security theater”. The “intensive pat-down” wouldn’t have discovered the underwear bombers explosives anyway, or the scanner either.

This is stupid and reactionary. Why can’t we use common sense like El Al?

  • notsofast

Chris, demands a full rectal and prostate exam with his pat-down.

They’re actually already considering it.It wouldn’t be as efficient though. It would cost us a ton to properly deploy the tactics El Al uses. It’s much more than simply ‘profiling’ anyone who looks Arab or Muslim. That’s another thing,we’re broke….really broke.Either way, what they’re doing now is obviously not very popular or efficient. We’ll have to see what happens…..it’s their move.I say:Get rid of the pat-downs,keep the X-ray machines!

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

I’ve heard it said that people give up their rights when they enter the airport, but if the government can decide when and where your rights apply, they’re not rights. Certain government jobs can infringe on one’s rights, but that is known by contract between the government and the government employee and is done voluntarily. Criminals waive their rights by way of breaking the laws of the land.

Napolitano is out of control, the TSA is out of control, and this is step one in domestic travel infringements. If you people who mocked the Arizona immigration law as a sort of East German “let me see your papers”, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Fact: All TSA has to do is having Chris Matthews bend and touch his toes and it would be a self pat down exam! Besides if a underwear bomb was there it would be set off.

It doesn’t have to be though. Ask any cop. If a bank was just robbed by a short stout white guy, would you stop the tall thin Asian woman and search her? Or to be even more ridiculous would you stop the old lady in the wheel chair? Sorry maam, the bank was just robbed and to be fair we’re stopping everyone on the sidewalk in front of the bank regardless, otherwise short stout white guys would think we were being unfair to them.

I can’t fathom the level of stupidity we have reached.

  • tatboy

What side was this asshole on when Bush was listening to phone calls??? Oh ya the OTHER side of this issue. What a tool.

Matthews was obsolescent a year ago and now he’s obsolete, over the hill, a complete farce on a cringe-level with Olbermann & worse than Larry OverDose. MessNBC is his true home, however, and he doesn’t suck as hard as the Human Torch, I’ll give him that…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-Mangan/100000213524770 David Mangan

You know, the sad part about it is that i had lunch at a table for four with Matthews about 20 years ago while he was still working for Tip O’Neill and he was a really decent gentleman, able to see and understand both sides of an issue. Now he’s turned into a ranting ridiculous freak, perhaps just so he won’t be the EVEN man out at MessNBC, which might be classified an asylum for political junkies on crack.

Good to see that Matthews still tows the donk party line.

I wonder what this learned and esteemed journalist would have said if these rules were issued under Bush.

I remember him screaming loudly about looking at what one checks out of the public library.

  • felixw

The MSNBC hosts are predictably in favor of all kinds of intrusive federal government — but first its was just in your wallet, then into your medical care. But now the feds are reaching into your bloomers, and Chris Matthews gets a tingle just thinking about it. At least the folks at MSNBC are consistent — they support any program or initiative that gives more power to the folks in Washington, D.C., and less to you and me.

Anybody that doesn’t think Ann Coulter is funny is an idiot.
Below is her comment about the TSA situation. Love you Ann.

    From Ann Coulters column…………………

Nancy Pelosi is more likely to engage in a terrorist attack on America than any grandmother or 8-year-old. Just look at what she did to our health care.

Pelosi opposed the Gulf War on the grounds that it would be bad for the environment. She voted to reduce funds for the B-2 intercontinental bomber and repeatedly voted against a missile defense system. She voted to end Radio Marti broadcasts to Cuba. She voted against war in Iraq. She voted against a constitutional amendment to permit school prayer and against allowing state and local governments to display the Ten Commandments.

No wonder she has a 100 percent congressional rating from al-Qaida.

And yet Pelosi is not only able to breeze into the U.S. Capitol without a search, but she can usually board a commercial airline without submitting to the groping or nude body scan that awaits the rest of us. Members of Congress and government officials are generally exempted from the TSA’s airport screenings.
