CNN’s Anderson Cooper Has Highest Rated Show In Cable News Among Viewers 25-54

Cable news ratings, March 18, 2011:

•CNN’s Anderson Cooper finished first among cable news shows Friday night, hitting 599,000 viewers 25-54. That was the highest-rated show on any network for the night, beating usual ratings news champ The O’Reilly Factor on Fox.

Overall, Fox News placed second in primetime among viewers 25-54 as CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Piers Morgan and Cooper finished first in their timeslots. Fox was without two of its stars, though, with Juan Williams subbing for Bill O’Reilly and the network airing a special on Japan in Sean Hannity‘s 9 p.m. timeslot Friday, and CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight was first, with 388,000 viewers, just ahead of Fox’s 385,000. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show was a distant third (Maddow herself was off) with 154,000 viewers.

•After a week of third-place finishes for MSNBC’s primetime shows (with Fox News staying strong and CNN seeing significantly stronger ratings), MSNBC devoted an hour at 11 p.m. Friday to Japan, and that was the network’s best-rated hour of the night, with 274,000 viewers 25-54, well ahead of Ed Schultz, Lawrence O’Donnell and Maddow. The hour still placed third, however, behind timeslot winner Anderson Cooper on CNN, and Fox’s O’Reilly Factor (rebroadcast).

I think it’s apparent now that the real winner of Olbermann leaving wasn’t Fox. It was CNN.

    The real winner was America.

  • Raygun

Elliot Spitzer’s show looks like the only one on CNN that isn’t working out, which is exactly how it should be.

Fox beat every CNN show in TOTAL viewers, that is the ONLY thing that counts. Only the O’Reilly rerun lost to one CNN show.
The DEMO group means NOTHING. More left-handed midget lesbians watched CNN than Fox. Look out Fox is going down hill.

  • Nacho

Gordon is out of touch with the real world.

Not true. Because the 25-54 group is what advertisers look at. And their money makes this whole thing go round. so the demo group…means everything.

  • Yoda002

What Gordon doesn’t realize in the world of marketing the only thing they look at is the 25-54 demo. Gordon has to move numbers around to feel special.

  • BFD

Yes, we know CNN is doing well.
After all, that was the reason FOX started spreading lies about them.

Are you going to advertise on CNN or MSNBC? Is anyone posting here going to advertise on CNN or MSNBC?
This site is about politics. Politics is about viewers who are voters not advetisers. FOX wins with viewers and voters. CASE CLOSED. The DEMO means NOTHING.

    Everyone’s Eyes Are On Libya.
Following is the scenario I personally would like Obama to explore in order to bring this new war to a quick ending for the benefit of all involved, to make America look like a true peace maker and a fair player along with being looked at as a excellent ally. To start with I would phone a few of our potential future allies and a few of our present allies and see who may consider accepting Gaddafi as a leader in exile. If I had any success with this idea, I would proceed to calling Gaddafi himself and in the most diplomatic voice possible, I would explain the dangers that are facing him and his opponents in as few as words as possible and at the same time ask him his opinion as to where he thinks this new uprising will end along with letting him know I have taken it upon myself to contact a few other nations on his behalf to see if any of them would accept him in life with peace where he can live out his Senior years without harassment or fear of retribution. I would tell him to think this over for three days then I will call him back. After our next phone call, if he declines the offer this time, no more offers will follow and he is on his own. This offer is too good for Gaddafi but it is the very best offer for the rest of the world without going into detail of the benefits awaiting the rest of the world if Gaddafi leaves Libya as soon as possible. Is this fair? NO. Is it right for the rest of the world? YES
