CNN’s In The Arena Hits Lowest Ratings Since Show’s Reformat, Slipping Below 100,000 Viewers 25-54

Cable news ratings, April 11, 2011:

•After a strong run amid CNN’s overall ratings improvement in recent weeks, the network’s In the Arena had its weakest showing since the show’s reformat after the departure of Kathleen Parker. On Tuesday night, the Eliot Spitzer-led show attracted just 92,000 viewers 25-54, and lost 48,000 viewers from its lead-in, John King, USA. Arena landed in fourth place behind Fox’s Bill O’Reilly, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell and HLN’s Nancy Grace.

The last time the show fell below 100,000 in the demo was back in February, amid concerns that poor ratings would require a change in the program’s direction. In recent weeks, Arena has regularly hit ratings in the 200,000 and above, even clearing 1 million viewers in the demo after the earthquake in Japan.

•With fill-in hosts taking the helm at Fox’s Glenn Beck, the ratings have been off, though hardly enough to threaten the show’s hold on first place in its timeslot. On Tuesday, the show was the lowest-rated Fox program in primetime with 326,000 viewers in the demo, but still comfortably ahead of the competition at CNN and MSNBC.

    GOOD!

  • Barack Must Go

He needs hookers if the show stands a chance of staying on the air. I suggest hiring Howard Stern as the Executive Producer.

  • Liberal Tormentor

    That’s gonna leave a mark!

ps FOX IS #1!!!!! You can’t even call the other’s competition.

This failure could have been predicted even before the very first episode. In fact, I predicted it on this web site on many occasions before Mr. Spitzer made his CNN debut. The amazing thing is that the CNN honchos thought that this smug, charmless, disgraced politician would attract an audience. As if we need another arrogant, sleazy Northeast establishment liberal to tell us what we think? Of course, CNN could easily fix this mess and put an exciting, provocative show on in this time slot that would challenge Fox — but that would require them to give up their mind-numbing political correctness and ideological purity. And we know that will NEVER happen at CNN. They prefer failure and marginalization over anything that might hurt the political prospects of their beloved savior in the White House. And that is exactly what they are achieving: failure and marginalization.

So watch this show collapse, Spitzer get fired, and another host just as boring and predictable take over the time slot. All that can be predicted with 100% accuracy.

The bright spot for Spitzer is , Keith Olbermann’s new show starts soon..

  • Probably NOT wrong

Sounds like there’s going to be a job opening for Rod Blagojevich.

That sucking sound you hear is client #9.

  • OxyCon

CNN needs to find another willing female, squishy conservative ditz to co-host with Client 9 to make him appear more intelligent and charismatic then he really is.

He’s got E.D. Hill on there now, but not co-hosting. Spitzer doesn’t seem to have co-hosting capabilities. It’s a better show than it was with Parker, though it still sucks mightily.

It needs to be Spitzer vs. Dana Loesch ALL THE TIME. Give Loesch her own show. She’s far better than Spitzer. Or it could be Spitzer vs. Breitbart, but Loesch is beyond credible enough for my taste.

  • Phocus2

Low ratings for this sparkling jewel of intelligence…no way!
