Fox News’ Steve Doocy Bashes CNN For Opening Debate Question

VIDEO

You may have heard that Newt Gingrich opened Thursday night’s GOP debate with some fireworks, accusing CNN and moderator John King of asking an “appalling” question to start the debate, and blasting, “the destructive vicious negative nature of much of the news media.” On Thursday morning, Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy expressed his displeasure at CNN, introducing a segment on the debate by suggesting that his rival news network would never open a Democratic debate with a question that personal in nature:

“Let’s just start with this. This debate could have started with one of the most egregious examples of media bias ever. If you think that CNN wold ever start with a personal question of a democrat in a Presidenial campaign. I think you’re crazy and I’d like to talk to you about buying some pipe land up in Canada. The way John King started the debate was to ask that guy right there, the former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, about allegations from his ex-wife Marianne, that he asked her for an open marriage. And it went uphill and then downhill from there.”

Enjoy a clip of Doocy’s CNN take-down — and awkward pipeline joke! — below, courtesy of Fox News:

CNN is not worth a hill of beans in the world of cable TV. At the general election debates, will Obama be asked real questions? Why is the LA Times still hiding the video of Obama with Khalidi?

“GOP Candidate’s Bitter Ex-Wife Receives More Coverage Than a Video of Obama Dining with Terrorist-Supporters”

There is “…a reliable source that “the audio tape clearly picks up the toast ‘death to Israel’.” Did Obama drink to the death of an American ally that he has been actively intimidating, browbeating, and dissing since he phoned Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on his first day in office? Does Obama liken Israelis living in the West Bank to Osama bin Laden, whose death he claims as his greatest foreign policy accomplishment?”

“Steve Doocy expressed his displeasure at CNN, introducing a segment on the debate by suggesting that his rival news network would never open a Democratic debate with a question that personal in nature”

Steve is right. CNN and other Leftist media have asked GOP candidates personal and hostile gotcha questions and never did the same with Barack Obama.

Why didn’t a panel ever ask when Obama stopped using cocaine? He wrote in his book he did cocaine. It was well known that Obama did cocaine yet no one in the media or during a debate ever asked Obama about personal matters.

Like who is Chandoo and why he went to Pakistan?

No panel asked about Obama’s ties to Islamist and racist Kalid Al-Mansoor. Who has close ties to Saudi Arabia.

Like his dealings with Tony Rezko?

Or his friendship with terrorist Bill Ayers or PLO supporters of terrorists?

So course conservatives are wondering why the media never asked Obama any of these questions…AND STILL HAVE NOT TO THIS DAY.

The forties. Bean hills are always in style, and the kids today need to discuss them.

Seriously, how outraged could a former failed weatherman like Steve Doocy be??

  • Anonymous

lol…I didn’t even bring up Obama RACIST COMMENTS in his book.

Something the media has never touched.

  • Anonymous

Speaking of “failed Weataherman” why hasn’t the media asked Obama why he started off his political career in the house of failed weatherman Bill Ayers and why he was on a board with him giving grants to terrorists plo.

  • Anonymous

The buffoonish John King swaggered right into this ambush. He marched toward the candidates like a bad hombre at high noon. Cut to:

“I didn’t deserve this,” King protests lamely, lying in a pool of his own blood. “ABC made me do it.”

Deserve’s got nuthin’ to do with it. Boom.

  • Gloves Dogg Donahue

That’s right ! What about Obama’s terrorist Weatherman friend Bill Ayers ?

It was recently discovered that when Ayers wrote “Dreams” for Obama, he plagiarized part of it from an African author.

How can you be a failed weatherman? You get the forecast right one day?

  • Anonymous

…yea the weatherman TERRORIST who started off Obama’s career who was later helped by Khalid Al-Manoor an Islamic radial and racist.

Two things are evident in the wake of Thursday night’s debate. First, the shrinking Republican field is being forced to adopt more and more the harsh rhetoric of the right-wing and the ea Party. The red meat is flying fast and thick, but it poses a real risk to the eventual nominee when they have to face a considerably more moderate electorate. Second, and most importantly, Mitt Romney is a flawed and fumbling candidate. He does not act nor appear to be a solid frontrunner. Not only is this due to conservative antipathy, but his own gaffes and mistakes have damaged his credibility. Mitt is in trouble, even if he makes it through the primary.   http://www.sunstateactivist.org

Why are Romney and Santorum protecting Obama by asking hard questions of Newt?

    You sound like Sarah Palin!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1190134026 Barry Dalton

First the Northern states kicked the South’s arse and told them how to run their states.

Today, Fox news–a Northern-based (foreign owned) company with mostly New Yorkers on staff–is telling Southerners how to think.

    How little things change.

Meanwhile, CNN–a Southern based company–is made out to be a leftist organization (despite it also being a capitalistic, profit-making corporation).

Too bad rightwingers are so busy choking down read meat and cheering faux outrage by its candidates that they are incapable of seeing the truth.

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

I know Fox News really isn’t part of the media, but they spent a year discussing Ayers…. and no one cared what they had to say!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1190134026 Barry Dalton

i think it’s been established that Obama was part of Bill Ayers gang and personally bombed a number of Federal buildings. As an admitted racist he also did a number of home invasions and took white people’s guns, impregnated their woman and then made them get abortions to cover his tracks.

But that was all litigated in the last election.

    You lost.

What’s funny is that none of you wingers is asking who had the most to gain from Marriane’s sudden need to talk about Newt’s past seeing that he’s currently tied with Mittens in S.C.

I have no problems with King asking a question of Newt Gingrinch and news that is out there about him. No problem at all……if it’s in an interview. This was a debate. What the hell are the other candidates supposed to “debate” there. That question has nothing to do with ideas. Yes that infomation may be relevant to someone voting for Newt, but it does not belong in a debate. Report it, ask him for an interview to respond, but don’t bring that up as a question at a debate. That is flat out an agenda driven question, when a moderator should have no agenda whatsoever.

Imagine if Fox News (since no one else would have the nerve) interviewed an old drug or womanizing buddy of Obama who claimed Obama continued his misbehavior in to his public service years, would John King or any MSM outlet open a Democratic debate with a cutting question on that?   For your answer just look how they handled the John Edwards scandal which simmered for months before they finally couldn’t ignore it.

When a republican makes a mistake, we all make mistakes. When a non republican makes a mistake, they are not worthy of making a mistake.

Newt went into this debate with a strategy.  You could tell by how effortlessly he went into his response. He knew he would get some flack over his ex’s comments and he also knew there were a lot of angry right wingers out there in the audience so he went in not just ready, but looking to lash out. He’s actually doing a great job managing his campaign, turning potential problems into victories. Doocy is either dumb or in on the strategy, I’ll go with dumb.

    right on the first question

no, on the second, but mostly because he believed his own press clippings and speeches that he could get rightwingers to work with him.

he ended up compromising too soon and not getting as much out of his mandate as he could have

He could have gotten the public option in Healthcare for one.

And ending the legal monopoly protection enjoyed by the medical insurance company would have brought a stop to their open price fixing and collusion.

In both regards, though, he bowed to rightwing pressure and got a weaker bill.

I’m also not thrilled with the mandate that requires you to buy insurance from a private company…I personally think that’s unconstitutional…but again, it was a rightwing idea that Obama bought into and now they’re holding it against him

    I could go on.

But compared to draconian policies the hard right will nominate, it’s a no contest.

If he got the public option, it would make Obama care even more expensive than it already is while making the whole law even more unpopular than it already is.

As for getting right wingers to work with him, it was he that said “We won the election” not the right wingers…implying our way or the highway.

The monopoly you describe by medical insurance companies could be ended very easily if policies could be sold interstate, and it would also help if the state legislatures would stop mandating things like crystal therapy and acupuncture be covered in all policies, requiring everyone to buy that coverage whether they want it or not.

And I keep hearing you talk about him bowing to right wing pressure while not mentioning the fact that his super majority in the House, and essentially a filibuster majority in the senate would allow him to pass whatever the hell he wanted at the time.   So with that in mind, how was Obama bending to the powerless right wing of congress?

And right now, the policies the GOP candidates are talking about are tax reform, reduction in the size of federal government, reduced government involvement in private enterprise, and removal of selected unconstitutional government agencies.   So what are the Draconian policies that you are referring to?

    Newt = Charlie…the womanizer
Rick Perry= Jake…not the sharpest knife in the drawer

Please enlighten us with the real story of his rise from son of a working-class single mother to president, via HLS. How is he not self-made?  Who paid for him?  What vast left-wing conspiracy is behind this imposter?

That’s only half the story. Just recently, he and Ayers were rolling around together nude on a pile of government cash for Solyndra and stopping only to snort coke off of Ronald Reagan memorabilia. The media was all there, and so was Ahmadinejad, and they were high as could be. Everyone felt good and safe because the Muslim Obamabot Army from Kenya stood guard.

It all happened on a great episode of Star Trek: the Next Generation. One of my faves.

The people – roughly about 16,000 – under the bus are those who never got to get a job with the proposed pipeline, because the desert lizard is more important than the families of these people.

The people who are under the bus are those who will never get to build an airplane in South Carolina, because the unions and their puppet, the President, chose to ignore the part of the Constitution about their right to the “pursuit of happiness”, in other words, a job – the RIGHT TO WORK – is a main part.

we’ll have to agree to disagree

but right now private insurance companies openly collude on costs, payouts, everything. So there is no real competition.

at least with a public option they would have to compete with the lower rates of the public plan…they could counter lower rates with better service, quality and benefits if they want

Which draconian policies? Where do I start. The Paul Ryan plan to kill Medicare for one.

you obviously haven’t received the newsletter…

When I said Blacks I was not referring to African Americans. I was referring to our secret army,  headquartered at FEMA, to take over the government and install Nancy Pelosi as supreme leader. Turns out the previously unknown Obama was her butler and she installed him in the whitehouse as a puppet government and front so that she could have the biggest plane in history fly her from San Francisco to Cuba and back on a daily basis.

There is no such thing as a failed weatherman.

Every announcement by any weatherman about any weather, anytime, is at least 50% accurate.

Using the criterion you judged Steve Doucy by, Obama is a FAILED PRESIDENT.

And he can’t even bowl a 100, which is only one third of being successful.

They’re talking about the pernicious effects of democratic policies (welfare entitlements) on the BEHAVIOR resulting in a 72% FATHERLESS household rate, and generational welfare dependency for an entire demographic…thanks to the Democrats!

Your other point about consulting is a non sequitur in the extreme.

    Good Info Tina.

Democrats today are the Communists and Fascists of yesteryear.

They can’t win on the merits of their ideology, so they must impose their indoctrinated worldviews on everyone else through lies, deception, misrepresentations, and pitting their leeching, taxpayer-dependent supporters against working-class Americans – but only for as long as evolution allows them.
Sooner or later evolution wins, and like all other totalitarian regimes before them, they’ll be gone!

The reality that is coming out from multiple sources, including Obama supporter Tom Daschle’s book, is that Obama and Rahm Emmanuel had a handshake deal in place with the healthcare giants, Insurance industry and Pharmaceutical industry from the outset that the White House would resist any effort to include a public option if the Industries held back from committing all their resources to killing  HCR.   I think this is one of many indicators that Obama is pretty comfortably in the pocket of corporate America.

That said, I agree with the idea that re-electing what used to be termed a moderate Republican (Obama or if worst comes to worst Mitt) than what used to be called a batshit raving John Bircher (the rest of ‘em.)

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

After right wing talk radio pre-impeached Obama for glancing association (some still caught in every brand of grand conspiracy) with William Ayers, Obama was grilled on the topic in an April 2008 debate with Hillary.  Obama was also questioned about the soundbites from his long time pastor.  Neither of these topics cover policy. They are personal.  Not questions about his own direct behavior mind you.  But those he knew.

How did Obama respond? Outrage?  Contempt?  Anger?  Of course not… he’s Obama.  He spoke thoughtfully and carefully so that people might understand how these people figured, or didn’t figure in his world.

The comparison says everything about the candidates and importantly the type of people who gravitate to each.

Obama’s style on issue after issue, from HCR to extending the Bush Tax Cuts to the Debt Ceiling showdown has been to try to appear “post partisan” by conceding elements important to the left and beginning negotiation from the middle.   Meanwhile the Tea Party era GOP, it’s vital to be seen as refusing to agree to anything from the dems or even non Tea Party Repubs, not matter how reasonable or even if it is originally a GOP idea (the final Health Care bill is essentially the Heritage Foundation model from 10 years ago.)

As for Draconian, the entire approach pushed by the GOP is about cutting programs designed to help the poor, working class and middle class, which leaving untouched all Corporate Welfare, loopholes that allow Corporations to outsource labor and offshore profits therefore paying no tax, financial policy that allows Wall Street to privatize their profits while laying off the catastophic losses on the tax payer…   The end result of this is pretty evident in the numbers – Real income growth has been stagnant or even shrunk each year for the past decades for the working and middle class, which it has skyrocketed for the ultra wealthy.

You may return now to your previously scheduled Fox News fantasy world.

    Barry,

The insurance companies can much more easily callude when their pool of competetors resides only in their state.

And as for the public option lowering prices, medicaid and medicare has not shown this effect, I dont think Obama Care will either.

Regarding Paul Ryan’s plan, you know thats a huge overstatement to say it would “kill” medicare.  That is simply not true.  It would restructure it and employ the use of vouchers to prevent the massive fraud that exisist in medicare now, but it will certainly not kill it.

What will kill medicare is our current plan, which is to do nothing about it.  Beacuse that in Tandem with Soc Sec/Medicaid/ and now obamacare, will increase our non-descretionary entitlement spending to levels that will render us insolvent in a couple decades.

And even if we taxed the “super rich” at 99%, (ignoring the implications of that in itself), the new revenue would not even be a drop in the bucket to our mounting debt due to entitlements.

Steve Doocy’s “perspective” is clearly what we would expect from a decidely proven dim-witted, water-carrying lap dog of the GOP’s reactionary wing.  I mean, I am seriously convinced the gentleman was dropped on his head at an early age. OK, no, Newt didn’t ask for an open marriage. How dare you believe that! CNN did him a favor. Got that out of the way immediately on a national stage. All he did was cheat on his second wife that was his mistress while he was cheating on his first wife. And the new one was a girl younger than either of his daughters so who can blame the guy? Look at him! So maybe all he wanted to do was go on cheating with some hot young babe without any static from the old bag. Or maybe he just said, kiss-off baby, it’s been a nice run but I got this other chick now. It’s a he-said-she-said. And of course he was cheating with his 2nd ex-wife against his first wife to kick it all off so it’s not like she shouldn’t have seen it coming. Just a practice cheating, till something really younger and really good looking came along. But other than that, what’s that got to do with character? Outrage! The press got it all wrong! They used that bitter old biddy’s pain as a “gotcha” just before a major primary. Obviously Newt’s not going to do any more cheating, because he’s so old and so fat and so ugly at this point he’s surely not going to find anyone younger or prettier–so chill out! You rotten media bastards!

I seem to recall that Fox News spent virtually all of 1998 obsessed with what Obama did or didn’t do with Monica Lewinsky.  Now when one question comes up during a CNN debate on the day when Newt’s ex-wife claimed he wanted an “open” marriage, Fox News anchors are gasping that such a question is over the line and outrageous.

I have to admit, Newt Gingrich is a genius for converting an issue concerning his outrageous behaviour (which contradicts his family values mantra) into an opportunity to blame the media and claim victimhood.

That may play well with a base that gets its information from Fox News. But, assuming somehow he gets elected, imagine four years of this from a President Gingrich, and this schtick will grow old VERY fast.

  • Mari Johnson

Oh golly, I never thought our party would get so whiny about anything.  The question was fair game and needed to be aired.  Newt acted like a dog when he sent his wife divorce papers after already having an affair while his wife suffered from cancer and in fact was getting chemo.  That Newt cheated on his ill wife is something our party fails to account for after nearly undoing the Clinton Presidency for his transgressions!  Two faced, anyone?  This obvious double standard will ruin our party’s moral authority and it will never be the same.  Newt’s behavior is disgusting and compared to Romney, the differences in family values is stark.  Frankly, Newt is a horrible example of our Party’s family values and yet he keeps spouting about them all the time.  As I said, Newt makes Clinton into an overnight saint with his crude behavior and his lack of owning up to it by loosing total control and shaming our party on national TV.  the question was very fair but Newt’s dodge shows what a two faced coward he has turned into since hs is NOW the subject whose behavior is so vile,. Newt’s criticism of Clinton was based on hubris alone when all the while he was living like a pig.   That anyone thinks he did ANY good for our party truly is a shame on our party.

After the debate last night, I decided to stay up and watch Marianne Gingrich on Nightline.  The interview had been promoted all day.  The Drudge Report had indicated that Brian Ross had interviewd her for two hours.  As the show began, I was shocked that they were only devoting one segment to the interview (they also did a segment on the Costa-Concordia and one on celebrity babies).  Out of the two hours that she was supposedly interviewed, Maianne Gingrich appeared on screen for less than three minutes.  They had a response from Newt’s daughters and clips from Newt blasting John King at the debate last night, together with the standing ovation he received.  Marianne Gingrich said nothing that she had not already said in the Esquire interview.  She even had to defend herself from charges that she had tried to peddle influence when Newt was Speaker and they were still married.  The interview was a total rip-off and ABC should be condemned for selling us a false bill of goods!

  • Michael G.

Well for one thing Gingrich brings it upon himself. If you claim to be a Christian you shall not commit adult and you shall not covet your neighbors wife. Two laws that were passed down from another Supreme Court.  Gingrich also cannot make up his mind where he wants to pray. First he is a Southern Baptist, then moves to the Lutheran church which is about as opposite you can get unless you become a Roman Catholic, which he did. He has not petitioned his parish for an annulment for his other two marriages under canonical law. And has not asked for special dispensation either from the parish or the Bishop of the Diocese. (Even if that were granted). So if he receives the Sacrament of communion, every Roman Catholic should be outraged. Receiving the Body of Christ is a mortal sin if you are living in mortal sin. (see 10 commandants on mortal sins). (Yes I know I know what about Obama. God will handle Obama in God’s own time. Right now God will handle Gingrich in God’s own time as well.) *Note to Evangelicals of South Carolina, what part of Thou Shall not Commit Adultery, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife do you not understand and the final question. Why have the sacrament of marriage at all if you are going to divorce. Just have a civil ceremony and skip the hypocritical fealty to God’s law. To love and to honor from this day forward in sickness and health till death do us part so help me God.  Awe I don’t know if you are aware of it? When you make that proclamation you are making a binding covenant with God. Not a very wise idea to break a covenant with God. God takes covenants very seriously.

Yes Michael, and God said “Judge not less you be judged”.  God is a forgiving God, remember how much He loved you.   People put into office in our United States of American on the last election a man who does not believe in the Trinity, the Son of God our Lord and Savior.  Now are you saying we should elect another man who does not believe that Jesus is the Son of God.  Of all that you have read about Newt,  I do believe his knowledge will take a strong stand.

Newt not only dumped first wife with cancer for mistress. Mistress then got MS and was dumped by Newt for 3rd mistress/wife who hasn’t become ill yet.

Along the way he did the same with religion–Lutheran to Baptist to Catholic. What a hoot. He’s married 3 times and Catholic now.

  • http://twitter.com/melro52 Valeria Rogers

You are Lala. Let’s see–doing illegal drugs briefly as a teenager vs. dumping 2 wives that became ill for mistresses as an adult and while in the political arena.
