Glenn Beck’s Audience Didn’t Really Want To Know About Books

Cable news ratings, December 21, 2009: Check out the highlights, and see the full ratings below:

• Fox News’ 5pmET ratings juggernaut Glenn Beck is off this week, and there are several pre-packaged new shows in the can that are airing in place of the live program. On Monday, Beck welcomed a few of his favorite authors for a “Heroes and Stories” special – and the ratings dropped significantly from where they usually are in total viewers. Beck was under two million, and had less viewers than the next two hours.

• The top show on cable news was, once again, Bill O’Reilly‘s 8pmET program in both categories.

Check out all the ratings below, and leave your own thoughts in the comments:

    Steve,

You will, without a doubt, get slammed for the title – even though it’s true…

Steve is known for using proactive titles, to get people to read the ratings post. Nothing new… and not necessarily a bad thing. Not bias… just a hook.

YOU, however, got suckered in (and no doubt we’ll hear from the other regulars —maybe even Christian Larson will chime in as Karl again— about how Beck viewers don’t read, and blah blah blah. Of course, the real issue when talking about this, is that even with lower ratings… Beck still managed to beat his competition in both categories… combined. Oh, and this is interesting… if you add up the totals for the 5pm hour, without Beck, in both the total and the demo (I know, counting people twice, but we’ll pretend that’s for extra demo significance)… the number is STILL LESS than Beck’s total number.

So in summation… slow night for Beck… and the other guys should be so lucky to be that slow.
