Joe Scarborough: With His Immigration Comments, Gingrich ‘Strapped On Same TNT’ As Rick Perry

Newt Gingrich‘s comments at last night’s GOP debate saying the United States needs a “humane” immigration policy drew scrutiny from MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Wednesday morning’s Morning Joe comparing the former Speaker of the House’s comments to Rick Perry‘s earlier remarks that torpedoed his poll numbers. “That’s a Rick Perry moment,” exclaimed Scarborough. “He just strapped the same TNT that blew Rick Perry up a couple months ago.”

“I do not believe that the people of the United States are going to take people who have been here a quarter of a century, separate them from their families and expel them,” Gingrich said last night. “I do believe that if you’ve been here recently and have no ties to the US, we should deport you.”

“What Newt Gingrich said about immigration will damage him in two states, Iowa and South Carolina,” observed Major Garrett

“Other than those two states, he’s good!” Scarborough snarked. “The two most important states!”

“For Gingrich to succeed against Romney, he needs to exceed in Iowa and South Carolina,” Garrett continued. “Only one state that Newt Gingrich has three offices — he has five in South Carolina. What he said last night is going to undercut whatever momentum he was building at the state level in both Iowa and South Carolina.”

“Why did he do that?” Scarborough pondered.
