MSNBC Investigates Hawaiian Cuisine With Steely-Eyed Determination

Barack Obama‘s Christmas trip to Hawaii has been a welcome gift for news networks dealing with a relatively slow news cycle during the holidays. MSNBC decided to commemorate the Commander in Chief’s trip by having various contributors sample a variety of traditional Hawaiian foods and try guess which of these perplexing, mysterious dishes was which, all while wishing they were CNN’s Ed Henry, hula dancing on some far-off shore in a truly bitchin’ shirt.

Treats included “loco moco,” a food whose name is wildly unappetizing to Spanish speakers, spam musubi, and other dishes relying heavily on salty meat products. We particularly enjoy anchor Richard Lui‘s barely-concealed, gradually mounting disdain for the contestants as they continue to guess incorrectly. The contest was also not without controversy, inspiring various cries of “Ew!” and allegations of cheating.

Watch as these “cultural mavens” engage in a bit of in-depth, investigative reporting and wonder… whither the Mai Tais?

I hope their Food reporting is better than their Political reporting.

Here’s how Fox News would cover it:
“Coming up on Fox News, look at this photo of Obama eating shave ice: is the cone in the shape of an Islamic crescent? You decide. And later, Obama eats a pulled pork sandwich. Did Marx enjoy pulled pork, as well? And if so, what does that say about Obama?”

Finally the WH Press Corp has a POTUS who travels to enchanting sites that are worthy of them.

I kind of miss their pinched, bored sour expressions from under the single flashing traffic light in Crawford. :)

George W. Bush used this even-by-texas-standards-a-backwater town as a kind of Potemkin village; it was an attempt to connect with small-town voters. Notice how ‘W’ quickly made his post-Presidential abode a gated community near Dallas.
