On CNN: Rep. Allen West Compares The Tea Party To ‘The Blob’

video

Appearing on CNN’s Starting Point, Florida Republican Congressman Allen West compared the tea party movement to the The Blob, the “giant amoeba-like alien that terrorizes small communities” in the 1950s science-fiction classic. “When you look at the tea party, it’s much like Steve McQueen’s movie, ‘The Blob’!” West exclaimed. “They’re kind of different from each state to each state. There really is no centralized organization or structure to it, so each organization in its respective state or even North Florida down to South Florida can differ.”

RELATED: Soledad O’Brien Grills Rep. Allen West About His ‘Get The Hell Out’ Of The United States’ Comments

O’Brien had asked West what was going on with the tea party, the movement that helped to elect the Florida representative. “Is the tea party all over the map and within the tea party there’s no coalescing around a candidate?” West explained that the tea party was different in different parts of the country. “The candidates have to appeal to all of those different facets,” West observed.

Based on West’s comparison, it seems inevitable that the tea party movement will continue to ooze from town to town enveloping helpless citizens until –spoiler alert– some brave soul cripples it with fire extinguishers and drops it off in the Arctic.

For once I agree with Allen West. The Tea Party is like the Blob.
Neither have a brain. Both leave a trail of slime and a path of mindless destruction, death, and mayhem. This comment writes itself ! Thanks, Idiot ! Oh and Steve McQueen would hate them equally .

  • Anonymous

LOL! Have fun with this one….

  • Gloves Fred Donahue

Reminds me of the time the former Mrs. Donahue tried to make lasagna.

  • Anonymous

    i giant blob of feces!!

  • Anonymous

Great point….after all, it was the Tea Party who couldn’t for a coherent platform (other than “we want free stuff!) until the media did it for them, and the mindless death, destruction, and mayhem is still happening even as we speak in Oakland from this Tea Party rabble…..

  • Anonymous

Clearly he’s never seen “The Blob”, as his comparisons make no sense (but that’s West for you).

He DOES realize that the Blob was DEFEATED, right?

Maybe he meant Kevin Dillon’s The Blob

    LOL

Let’s grant the possibility that West meant the analogy to suggest the Tea Party as being an independent, grass roots, organic (etc etc & other touchy feely crapola) organization.

In some ways, I think that’s probably true. Birchers were out there, waiting, over 40 years since being ostracized from the Republican party by William F. Buckley, for a vehicle to allow them to regain power; & no doubt Buckley died of natural causes; & Tea Partiers are presumptively carbon-based life forms; so, ya, okay – in those senses, it’s ‘organic’. But it’s also quite obviously – & many would argue critically – also a corporate creation: by Fuppet News (particularly from when Glen Beck had his lemonade stand there), by Dick Armey & his Koch brothers’ dough, & by all manner of parasites & symbiots that make careers from relieving the money pressure on the insides of the wallets of reactionary authoritarians.

Now, whether that de-centralized power is a good thing or not, that’s still an open question, & big a problem for the Republican party to continue to struggle with. The phenomenon is going to bring with it huge electoral success (the 2010 midterms), & huge backlash (this presidential election, the coming turn-around in Congress, recalls in Wisconsin, voter rebellion in Ohio, more to come in Michigan & Arizona, probably elsewhere). So what’s the lesson? So far, it’s that the TPers can certain influence & some cases take over the nomination process, & under the right conditions even win some elections – but they can’t lead to any sustained ability to govern. If that last were to CHANGE – if the TP organized itself a sustainable governance platform, which so far has not been proven – then, sure, it’s organic nature might have some meaning & value. But so far BOTH parts of West’s analogy apply: it’s power has been entirely destructive.

Can the Republican party dump it in the ocean? I don’t think so – not without dragging the Republican party in with it. But this time conservatives don’t need a WFB to banish the extremists: demographics & the power of time are going to do that. Very soon throughout many to most parts of the country, it won’t be possible to get elected without appealing to Hispanics. The Hispanic vote is going to carve up the blob into little toilet-bowl flushing-suitable bits.

The Tea Party is a Blob!

As they reach the same demise as ‘The Blob’, does in the film, many wil be just as happy…

  • Anonymous

Obama is expected to get a lot of Obama Republicans to re-elect him.

  • Anonymous

Again,  the pitfall of arguement by analogy.

  • Anonymous

Get the Hell out of my dining car!

  • Anonymous

Good analogy.  Much like the crowds who originally saw The Blob in the the theater, most of the Tea Party were born before 1930.

  • Anonymous

I would have chosen Monolith Monsters (1957) Mindless rocks growing until they collapse and then growing again. destroying all in their path.

  • Anonymous

If the Tea Party is like Steve McQueen’s movie The Blob then America under the reign of Barack Hussein Obama is like Steve McQueen’s movie Towering Inferno.

  • http://twitter.com/mikey970 michael benjamin

Steve Mcqueen got rid of the blob   buy freezing it ……send the tea bags to  Siberia!!!!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_45S32GWGDRUJIL6E2U4HOZW4BM Bob

you what the blob didn’t do?
cut and run, like West did when he decided it would be too tough to fight for re-election in his own district.

  • Bill McDowell

The young people who are no longer enamored by the President are flocking to Rick. Just take a notice to the crowds that he gathers.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2QQU55NYAIGI7OFTTIWGXHIA3A doa74656

Funny you mention Siberia. Its known for being a Soviet gulag where those who were at odds with the Kremlin were sent. Are you a communist at odds with freedom loving TEA Partiers? This is very fascistic of you

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2QQU55NYAIGI7OFTTIWGXHIA3A doa74656

Yes and libtards are most associated with everyones favorite sci fi movie nemesis The masses that stumble about not knowing or caring what they do, consuming at will with no conscience, dirty disheveled. Yes… zombies

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2QQU55NYAIGI7OFTTIWGXHIA3A doa74656

Yes and they remember a time when America was FREE

  • val smith

Gosh even a semi-retarded fatuous gasbag can be right every once in a while.

Hey Allen-Bel Biv Devoe called-they want their hair back

“Smack it up, flip it, rub it down oh nooooooooo”

  • val smith

I’m so glad she managed to get free. There is justice.

  • Anonymous

Alan West should really watch the movies first, isn’t he the same one who compared his party to the sociopath in The Town?

  • Anonymous

You are aware that communist and fascists are at the opposite ends of the political system, right?

  • Anonymous

It’s true. Zombies and liberals are into extreme recycling

  • Anonymous

    Try next to each other
Commie - state controlled (think public school)
facism – heavy state regulation (think American Oil industry)Freemarket – iphones

  • http://www.proactivepolitics.blogspot.com/ Norbit Peters

Well he could have chosen a better analogy, but the Tea Party, per se, has been a non-factor throughout the GOP race.

  • Чёрт Возьми

Politics is not a line, but a circle. The actions of fascists and communists are the same. The reasons given for the actions are the opposite.

  • Чёрт Возьми

I remember it just like it was yesterday.

Wait! It was yesterday, and today!

  • Anonymous

What an insult to the Blob.

  • Hugo Daun

Not to mention, most TPers also have a similar physique to The Blob.

  • Ronald Gagnon

    Ha ha ha
I love hearing these knuckle dragging loons getting bashed by another loon from the same party talking about who’s the truest loon of all of them

  • Anonymous

    lmao.. America is not free?

  • http://www.proactivepolitics.blogspot.com/ Norbit Peters

If you’re talking about the Democrats who joined ranks with Republicans in criticizing Obama’s war on religion, you’re absolutely right – but on the wrong thread.

Did somone already compare progressives to Steve McQueen. If they haven’t I officially do.

  • labman57

Yep.  The Tea Party is indeed much like an amorphous, alien, flesh-eating, soulless mass of caustic gelatin terrorizing all who cross its path.  And like the movie monster, they have effectively been put on ice.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_Y6XN52VKWPNTDCIL4V6PXYVTZE John Ross

His own district is actually district 20 where he lives. He has never had the courage to run here (where I live just a few miles from him) because he could never beat DWS in ANY election. He lost twice in the 22nd before 2010. That election was an aberration which will not be repeated and the coward knows it.

West is a loser with absolutely NOTHING to offer this country besides a bigger dose of snark than Palin could muster up. He’s not needed in our future and should be discarded in November like the garbage that comes out of his face.

  • Anonymous

The TEA Party was started with good intentions, but lost it’s way. Of the 75 newly elected TEA Party members elected, only 22 voted against the debt limit increase. The only politician that is true to his word is Ron Paul. He has never voted for an increase in taxes or debt limit increase. All the leading candidates have flip floped on many issues, that should tell you something about their character. This election is not a bueaty contest, it’s about the future of our country and no one is more dedicated to than Ron Paul.

    Get off my lawn !

The young people are ignorant of Santorum’s record, he has flip floped as much as Romney. He is younger looking and more attractive to the younger crowd, but they will learn. Santorum voted for the unfunded medicare part D, voted to kill the right to work act, voted for federal gun control regulations, supported unions and was rejected in his state senatorial race by record numbers of voters. If he wasn’t good enough for Pennsylvavinia, he sure isn’t good enough to be president.

I didn’t see a “Tea Party” on my ballot.  Do they really exist other than on the Internet?
    What are their goals?
Methinks this is where Republicans stash their crazy aunts and uncles.

Hooohaaahha aaahhhhhaaaaa — stop, stop — I can’t breathe!!!  “GOP intellectual” pegs the meter at redline on the oxymoronic scale!!!

  • Anonymous

They have been a driving force. West unfortunatly is correct they have no common platform so extremism took over and caused the main stream Republican party to break down into ineffective behavior.

  • Anonymous

Tea Party was/is a movement that has had no central cohesion. It is a subset of the Republican Party which has morfed into the New Republican Tea Party. Extremism has evolved from the factions of the original Tea Party movement which has caused the Republican Party to become obstructionist pandering to those extreme views in order to retain election numbers and voters. The Tea Party can not exist on its own nor can the Republican Party and together they become the New Republican Tea Party. Which now gives us lame candidates to put forth against President Obama and his victory by default.

Allan West is correct; As a Tea Party person, and elected committeeman I can say that the Tea Party is illusive and morphs to the areas’ needs. There is no centralized Head, with which the McCains & Obama’s may attack, and belittle the whole for the act of one. We are grandmas, grandpas, mothers and dads. We are working, tax paying, voting middle class. We are insulted as in this forum, but lay untouched and stronger by this recognition.
