Rick Santelli To Steve Liesman: “You Don’t Say Anything I Find Interesting”

santelli_12-15Correspondent Rick Santelli and anchor Steve Liesman yelled at each other for about two minutes this morning on CNBC’s Squawk Box.

Santelli, whose famous rant in February became a media sensation, seemed to have some major problems with what his colleague had to say – and vice versa.

The fight really escalated when Liesman told Santelli to “stand behind your words,” and Santelli yelled back, “I will stand behind my words!”

Then there was a lot of arguing about “retail sales numbers” and discussing which person didn’t know anything about “emergency claims benefits.” Really though, just a lot of shouting. “You don’t say anything I find interesting to hear,” said Santelli, midway through the discussion.

Santelli himself brought up his most famous moment: “10 months ago I had a rant. Nobody talks about it. Replay it, let’s see who history says is more correct.” (Nobody talks about it? It’s all Jon Stewart talked about for weeks.)

A quick search seems to show these two have been fighting since last week on Squawk Box.

Here’s today’s Squawk Box fight:

Santelli should be the anchor in control and Liesman should be on the floor being shouted down. But who do you think would be the one to be fired? The one who actually knows enough to speak to reality and that would not be Liesman. However, since CNBC worries more about market share and ad revenue than accurate financial advice (who listens to them for accurate financial advice anyway?) , they’ll probably keep both around for the their Faux Newz shouting match entertainment value.

Well since Santelli would march right over to Fox news in an heartbeat that is more likely why they are not
firing him. Not to mention the PR nightmare.

I like both Santelli the populist and Liesman the establishment man. Liesman is careful and never ventures beyond what he knows is fact, while Santelli sometimes goes off the reservation and gets a little crazy. Actually, I don’t think they like each other very much. But I enjoy their discussions, even and sometimes especially when the shouting match begins.

No yelling on Thursday morning. But _immediately_ after Santelli reported that the weekly New Unemployment Claims report was better than expected, Liesman said “no it’s not” and proceeded to demolish all that Santelli had reported.
