Bill Murray Got a Job as a Bartender in New York
This weekend, 21 Greenpoint is opening in Brooklyn. Syd Silver and Homer Murray, whose restaurant River Styx used to occupy the space, told Eater they’ve decided to “change it up” and transform their space into something new and more upscale. “We made it prettier, renovated the dining room, added a new bar, and updated the kitchen,” Murray said. The menu will feature seasonal dishes, and all of the ingredients will be from local farms. They’re also going to be trying to use food farmers can’t sell due to the way they look, known as “seconds.” “They don’t look as good but they still taste great and are high quality. Then we make them look pretty.”
Oh, and they’ve hired the enigmatic, French fry loving Bill Murray as bartender.
You read that correctly. On Friday, September 16th and Saturday the 17th, Homer’s father Bill will be tending bar.
Homer said, “We want people to come in and have fun. People can walk in; just be nice. What my dad lacks in experience, he makes up for in Tequila.”
It’s a nice thought, but of course that wasn’t going to work out, because you know who wants to order a drink from Bill Murray? Everyone. They’ve since issued a statement saying, “For overall capacity reasons, this is not an open door event, there will be a guest list.”
They are, however, saving a few seats for walk-ins. Best of luck.
