Fox & Friends Bicker Over Biden Attack on MAGA Republicans: ‘He’s Not Saying ALL Republicans’
On Thursday, President Joe Biden gave a speech in Arizona to take a shot at the most extreme wing of the Republican party, the MAGAs, the die-hard supporters of former President Donald Trump. He made it exceedingly clear that not all Republicans felt this way several times and even used the event to point out how successfully he has worked with Republicans in the past.
But some members of the panel of Fox & Friends took offense anyway.
Co-host Steve Doocy pointed out that Biden was not referring to every Republican. But that didn’t stop the rest of the panel — Ainsley Earhardt, Brian Kilmeade, and new co-host Lawrence Jones — from attacking Biden for “demonizing part of the country.”
After playing a clip of Biden describing how MAGA Republicans as extremist, Kilmeade immediately went on the attack:
Kilmeade: So when you have poll numbers that show you can’t win, that people think you’re too old, you have to make your opponent unelectable and dangerous. And how bad are those polls that he’s starting it a year early before the Republicans officially even have a nominee? That’s what he wants to do. He says, you know, it’s not a matter of Republican or Democrat. It’s crazy people against a guy that reaches across the aisle. And hopefully the American people understand it’s just people that don’t want you. It doesn’t mean they’re crazy.
Doocy: Also he’s not saying all Republicans are MAGA extremists. He says some Republicans are the extremists.
Kilmeade: Like the 74 million that voted for Trump?
Doocy: Ultimately what we’ve got going on right now in the House of Representatives, is you’ve got some extreme Republicans, extreme conservatives, far-right wingers who are standing up for what they believe in, and ultimately they are jamming up Congress.
But to co-hosts Jones and Earhardt, MAGA extremists are not only a big portion of our electorate, they’re just regular folks who want to make America great by shutting down the federal government:
Jones: I also think that it’s just not extreme to say, hey, go to regular order. I mean, something that was promised to them. They said that there were going to be 12 appropriations bills. Get back to the way that we used to do business. Let’s not continue to do these CRs. Let’s go to the budgetary process. I just think demonizing part of the country is just not going to work this time.
Doocy: Both sides are doing it.
Jones: The emotional appeal that he’s doing right now, when people are living paycheck to paycheck, when they soared under the Trump economy. When you got crime out of control, a border that’s being overrun, saying people that are MAGA because they want to make America great again, which is the slogan, I just don’t think it’s going to work this time.
Kilmeade: I don’t think both sides are doing it because I don’t see Donald Trump saying that Joe Biden’s dangerous. He just thinks he’s incompetent. I think he’s, his policies are terrible. But what he’s doing that’s an extreme version, it’s an extreme version of what [former President] Barack Obama did. Made [Sen.] Mitt Romney the worst person on earth, a white guy that wants to fire people from their jobs, that ties his dog to the roof, and what, and has totally detached from your life. Until he lost. And then they go, what a great guy Mitt Romney is! So Barack Obama had trouble running on his 40 percent approval rating. So he made it impossible to vote for is going to make it impossible to vote with a straight face for Mitt Romney. And now they’re doing it to the 10th power to Donald Trump.
Earhardt: I think, though, to your your point, if you ask independents, many of them will say we’re not really into politics. I just know what my paycheck looks like right now, how expensive groceries are. When I get to the front of the line at the grocery store, I have to tell the clerk, “Look, let me put that meat back. Let me put that cereal back because I can’t afford it. This is getting too expensive.”
