John Bolton Says Trump’s Brain Is Cooked: ‘His Mind Is Full of Mush’
John Bolton, a former National Security Advisor in President Donald Trump’s first term, said his ex-boss is cognitively damaged.
On Monday, the U.S. voted against a United Nations General Assembly resolution condemning Russia on the third anniversary of its invasion of Ukraine. The resolution called for Russia’s withdrawal from the country and the return of occupied Ukrainian territory. It came as Trump attempts to broker an end to the war and making U.S. aid contingent on Ukraine giving the U.S. some of its mineral resources. Trump has called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator” while not applying the term to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Bolton appeared on Monday’s edition of The Source on CNN, where Kaitlan Collins asked him about the U.N. vote.
“Did you ever think you’d see a vote like that, that did put the U.S. on the same side as Russia, North Korea, Belarus?” she asked.
“Well, there are a lot of strange votes at the United Nations that I’ve participated in,” said Bolton, who served as ambassador to the U.N. in the George W. Bush administration. “It wasn’t so much the vote itself as the fact we are aligned with what has always been NATO’s principal threat… I would say 95% plus of NATO’s planning during the Cold War and since then has been concerned about a Russian attack. That is the fundamental motivating factor why the alliance was created and why it still exists today. And we have sided now in this vote with NATO’s principal adversary. It’s just unthinkable that a president could do that.”
Collins asked Bolton if Trump’s aversion to antagonizing Putin part of a high-level strategy.
“Look, Trump’s defenders say everything he says is a negotiating strategy, including when he says ‘A’ and the next day says ‘Not A’… I think it’s an indication his mind is full of mush and he says whatever comes into it. He believes Vladimir Putin is his friend. And you don’t call your friends ‘dictators.’ He doesn’t like Volodymyr Zelensky. He hasn’t liked him since the ‘perfect phone call‘ of the summer of [2019]. So, it’s no sweat off his back to go ahead and call Zelensky a dictator. This is somebody who is not fit to be president. He can’t tell America’s friends from its enemies.”
