Lois Lerner Invokes 5th Amendment Again in House IRS Hearing

House Oversight Committee Chair Darrell Issa (R-CA) walked out of his own hearing on the IRS’ alleged targeting of conservative groups in the run-up to the 2012 election, after IRS official Lois Lerner invoked the Fifth Amendment Wednesday morning.

The incident was culmination of days’ worth of will-she-or-won’t-she over whether Lerner would testify. Lerner, the Director of the IRS Exempt Organizations division during the supposed targeting, had previously invoked the Fifth Amendment in response to questions from Issa’s committee, but Issa told Fox News’ Chris Wallace last Sunday that she plans to testify. There was subsequent confusion over whether it would actually happen, or whether it would happen publicly.
