Mitt Romney Will ‘Forgive But Remember’ April Fools Prank Played By Paul Ryan, Ron Johnson

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was the subject of an April Fools prank over the weekend, set by Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan (R) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R). The two tricked Romney into appearing at a campaign event at which it initially appeared that no one showed up.

“Keep in mind – April Fool’s Day,” said Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy while introducing the clip. “Well as it turns out, Paul Ryan led him right into one of the biggest jokes we know of.”

Fox a played a grainy over-the-shoulder video clip of Romney and Sen. Johnson entering a campaign event while Rep. Ryan delivered a fiery introduction. As Romney entered the room to Ryan’s praising him as “the next President of the United States,” Romney turned a corner to find himself in a virtually empty restaurant.

Ryan and Johnson appeared pleased with their April Fools prank and Romney seemed to have been caught off guard. “Can you imagine what the feeling is in your stomach when you’re walking in,” asked host Gretchen Carlson, “and you know now that it’s going to be video-taped, so if it’s actually true that’s not a good message if nobody shows up.”

Romney did not make the trip for nothing, however, as there was a campaign audience awaiting his arrival upstairs from the epicenter of Ryan’s prank. Imitating Ryan’s hyped introduction, an animated Mitt Romney explained the joke to a now-full house. The former governor seemed to take the prank in stride.

“This is going to look really bad on the evening news, let me tell you,” said Romney. “Not only did they do that but they caught it on camera. This is known as forgive but remember,” Romney said ominously while looking in the direction of his pranksters.
