Morning Joe Awkwardly Ignores Mike Allen’s Deep Dive Into Biden Decline Story

Something unique happened on the set of Morning Joe Monday morning—a deep-dive report focused on former President Joe Biden’s alleged cognitive decline.

The thorough reporting came from Axios co-founder and frequent show contributor Mike Allen, who detailed the national discussion regarding this massive story. This story has been an enormous focus on every cable news outlet, except MSNBC, whose progressive opinion hosts largely defended Biden during the 2024 election and warned about a second term by President Donald Trump.

Of course, the national conversation is pegged to a new book, Original Sin, to be released Tuesday, co-authored by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson. It strongly suggests a cover-up of Biden’s alleged decline in mental acuity by senior White House aides. It insists that Biden’s decision to run for re-election until it was very late, effectively ensured the very Trump second term that Biden — and MSNBC hosts —so direly warned about.

Allen’s report included references to massive developments from the past few days — namely, a cancer diagnosis that Dr. Zeke Emmanuel had just told the stunned Morning Joe co-hosts that Biden likely had prostate cancer for some time, and raised serious questions about the lack of reporting.

Perhaps more notable was the release of audio of Biden being interviewed by Special Counsel Robert Hur, who controversially included details that a jury would perceive the President as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” and thus did not press any criminal charges about classified documents found in the garage of his Wilmington, Delaware home.

“You hear the then president grasping for dates, grasping for details, lawyers jumping in to try to help him answer the question, the painful pauses,” Allen tells the show co-hosts. “This interview was done over two days, five total hours in the map room of the White House. You hear the ticking of a grandfather clock in the map room in these painful silences. Hearing this… Beyond the words that we’ve heard and the records that we have seen.”

“It really brings it to focus, this question that so many Democrats are asking now is, how did we go down?” Allen concludes. “This road and Original Since out tomorrow on the record, you have top Democratic officials saying that the decision to run again made things so much harder for them for the party.”

Regular Morning Joe viewers may be forgiven for being surprised to hear Allen’s report because they were repeatedly told that Hur’s comments were part of a Republican smear campaign. Also, as recently as April 2024, Scarborough repeatedly insisted that Joe Biden was sharper than he had ever been.

So it is in this context that Allen shared damning details on such an influential and very pro-Biden opinion show. It’s also revealing that the only response to Allen’s report was the observation that the co-authors of Original Sin will be guests on Morning Joe on Wednesday, before the show quickly cut to commercial.
