Chris Rock: Democrats “Want To Win The Fight Without Taking A Punch”
Chris Rock is not exactly America’s top political pundit, but his fresh perspective on the left during his appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher yesterday provided insights on topics the professionals often overlook. Democrats, he argued, have to develop some thick skin. Being Chris Rock, he followed that up with the claim that true racial equality would only be achieved when America has a “dumb black president.”
Host Bill Maher gave Rock the space to keep his typically radical agenda in check, only interrupting once to attempt to make a race issue out of health care reform, but Rock shrugged him off. Rock delivered a pep talk most Democrats would probably appreciate. For one, he couldn’t understand why the Democrats constantly acted as if they were under siege, noting that “we’re winning by 20 [members of Congress] and we go ‘Oh, they’ve got us now!'” The Democrats, he argued, “want to win a fight without taking a punch,” and panic when they have to take what they dish out.
Rock also assessed the fear of health care reform on the right, providing an amusing analogy to the First Class cabin on an airplane suddenly being flooded by people who received a free pass from the government. Of course, he argued, the people who paid would feel cheated.
