The Michael Brown and Eric Garner protests have spawned the rallying cry “Black Lives Matter.” Some counter-protests (especially in the wake of cop fatalities in New York) have taken to using “Blue Lives Matter.”
Last night, in a perfect highlight of the fighting between two sides, an ex-NYPD cop battled NY Times columnist Charles Blow on CNN over #BlackBrunchNYC protesters and which side has the bigger issues to face up to.
Don Lemon, the anchor in the middle of that contentious debate, reflected in radio commentary this morning that people simply aren’t listening to each other anymore. He lamented how everyone’s made up their minds and there’s no real breathing room where people can sort out their differences:
“Sure, black lives matter. Of course blue lives matter. But at some point, and soon, everyone has to stop talking and start listening, because all lives matter.”
