During a segment on CNN this morning, CNN political commentator Paul Begala was scolded by anchor Kate Bolduan for invoking Russian President Vladimir Putin and stating that President Donald Trump had been elected due to assistance from Russia.
With the discussion involving Begala, Bolduan, and Trump supporter Amy Kremer already heated (it revolved around Trump’s unproven claims that former President Barack Obama had tapped his phones prior to the election), Begala turned it up even more with his Putin/Trump remarks.
Following Kremer’s insistence that Trump will eventually be proven right despite the FBI pushing the Department of Justice to publicly refute the president’s claims, Begala stated that this was why there was a need for an independent investigation. That then led to him to go down the ‘Trump is Putin’s puppet’ road.
“Here’s what we know,” the Democratic strategist said. “We know that Russia hacked the Democrats. We know that Putin wanted Hillary to lose because he feared her. We know he favored Donald Trump.”
He continued, “Hillary Clinton won the popular vote overwhelmingly. He was able to sneak in with the help of his friend Vladimir Putin.”
“Don’t even go there,” Bolduan shouted. “Don’t even question the outcome of the election, Paul! Don’t even go there right now! Stop needling and stop needling that. Stop poking the bear on that.”
As Begala added that “this is a crisis in our democracy,” the CNN host pointed out that she would be the “first to report it if there were any evidence” while ending the segment.
