A physical fight broke out during an Ohio kindergarten graduation where eight people were arrested. According to Cleveland police, a fight between two teenage girls snowballed to include six other adults following the ceremony at Michael R. White Elementary. No serious injuries were reported.
The six adults and two teens will face charges of aggravated rioting, police said. The AP reports on the rapid escalation of the fight:
City Councilman Jeff Johnson lives across the street from the school, which is in a blue-collar neighborhood overlooking the leafy University Circle arts and museum district. He said the spilled punch set off the fight, with one person pulling out a pipe and another a hammer, leading school security officers to call police.
“It’s a shame something like this would happen at promotional ceremony for young kids,” Cleveland Police Commander Wayne Drummond told a local Fox affiliate. “When people act like this they are going to jail.”
