Green Party Senatorial Hopeful Crashes Debate Stage: ‘This Is How You’re Treating a Candidate?’

You recall the whole kerfuffle about Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson not getting to be on the general debate stage, yes? Wouldn’t it have made for great television if, instead of just sort of accepting that he didn’t get to participate, Johnson ran up on the stage and forced his way into the consciousness of the viewing public? What if he said something really dramatic, like, “How do you serve democracy or serve the public if I’m excluded? This is how you’re treating a candidate?”

Sadly, that didn’t happen. Well, it didn’t happen in Johnson’s case. In the case of the Green Party candidate for Maryland’s open Senate seat, Margaret Flowers, though, that’s exactly what happened.

She ran up on the stage, explained that as someone on the ballot, she should be heard, and thanked the moderators for allowing her to participate.

She ran up on the stage, explained that as someone on the ballot, she should be heard, and thanked the moderators for allowing her to participate. The moderators, in turn, asked her to leave the stage so they could get on with the debate.

That’s when she asked, “This is how you’re treating a candidate?”

It’s also when the cops came out and escorted her off the stage.
