The suspect behind last night’s deadly attack in New York has no remorse for his actions.
Investigators are learning more about Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, the Uzbekistan man accused of intentionally driving a truck onto a Manhattan bike path and killing eight people. Saipov was shot by a police officer at the scene of the crime yesterday, and taken to a hospital for surgery on his wounded abdomen.
Multiple reports have come out on the NYPD’s attempts to interview Saipov before and after his operation. While most of the details are still undisclosed, officials have reportedly said that Saipov was unapologetic and seemed “proud” with the results of the incident.
When Saipov crashed his truck into a school bus last night, he reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he brandished a paintball gun and a pellet gun. Investigators said they have recovered knives from Saipov’s truck, along with notes in Arabic with the roughly translated declaration: “ISIS lives forever.”
Further reports suggest that the perpetrator might have been inspired by ISIS propaganda, though it hasn’t been determined whether there is any direct link to the terror organization. Investigations into Saipov’s past and online history are still ongoing.
