Rosie O’Donnell: Women Should Form Their Own Pro-Choice Party

Democratic leadership seem content to bargain away the fundamental human rights of some half of their party in the hopes this will win votes in rural areas, and Rose O’Donnell is among the many protesters of this policy.

On Tuesday, O’Donnell shared a tweet on Twitter chastising the Democratic party to agreeing to fund and support candidates who oppose abortion rights.

“WOMEN SHOULD FORM OUR OWN PARTY IF DEMS DO THIS,” she added.

Even at its worst, by supporting policies promoting public education and a higher minimum wage, the Democratic party would still be preferable to women, who are more likely to live in poverty, than men, but it should go without saying that the party’s worst is not what it should be offering to women.

Nancy PelosiTom PerezBernie Sanders, and, most recently, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Ben Ray Lujánd have all suggested that a Democrat opposing abortion is no big deal, while women are going bankrupt traveling out of state to have the procedure or injuring themselves attempting to perform the procedure at home. These difficulties are put on women in states with limited abortion access by state lawmakers who, whether they’re Democrats or Republicans, oppose abortion.

At the end of the day, if the Democratic party is willing to give its blessing to anti-woman candidates who are only going to cause women more suffering, then Rosie O’Donnell is more than willing to give her blessing to a new party that actually cares about fighting for women. Who knows, maybe this one will actually start the fight for universal healthcare.
