State Dept Releases Stunning Statement: Tillerson ‘Did Not Speak’ to Trump, Doesn’t Know Why He Was Fired
Following the announcement that President Donald Trump had ousted Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, State Department Undersecretary of Public Diplomacy Steve Goldstein released a statement on the matter that was absolutely stunning.
The statement first noted that Tillerson had intended on staying in his position. It also stated that the president never actually spoke with Tillerson and didn’t give him a reason for the termination.

“The Secretary had every intention of staying because of the critical progress made in national security. He will miss his colleagues at the Department of State and the foreign ministers he has worked with throughout the world,” the statement said.
Goldstein added that Tillerson is “unaware of the reason” for his firing but “grateful for the opportunity to serve, and still believes strongly that public service is a noble calling.”
The Washington Post reported that Trump asked Tillerson to step aside last Friday and that this was the reason the secretary of state cut his diplomatic trip to Africa short. Per Tillerson, however, the president didn’t personally communicate with him and didn’t inform him why he was being canned.
Speaking to reporters this morning, Trump said the decision to fire Tillerson was solely his.
