Stephen Colbert Takes On the #GiveThem20 Challenge, Kind Of
Ever heard of the Give Them 20 challenge? It was first directed at Daily Show host Jon Stewart from Sid Goodfriend, the founder of American Corporate Partners, an organization dedicated to “helping military veterans transition from the armed services to the civilian workforce.” Stewart’s behind-the-scenes endeavors to help American military vets first came to prominence back in May.
The challenge is similar to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in that one person does 20 push ups on video, posts it online, and challenges others to do the same. Stewart did his 20 in May with his staff looking on, counting each rep aloud. He then challenged former Daily Show colleague John Oliver to do the same, and Oliver obliged earlier earlier this month — kind of. (He had some help via a stand-in and a terrible edit.)
Well Oliver called out comedian and military vet Rob Riggle and future Late Show host Stephen Colbert. Riggle had no problem at all. (He even through in a 21st push up for the Marine Corps.) As for Colbert, well, he did his 20 push ups the only way a comedian like him knows how — via one big joke.
