Fox & Friends Debate Nikki Haley Campaign Future Ahead of South Carolina Speech Amid Dismal Polling: ‘Is She Going to Drop Out?’

The co-hosts of Fox & Friends weighed on Tuesday the state of Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign and how much longer it can last.

A debate about whether the former South Carolina governor is dropping out of the race began after news broke that she will be speaking at noon on Tuesday in Greenville, South Carolina. That speech will be followed by a visit to the Clemson area. These events are ahead of Saturday’s primary in the state.

Donald Trump has led Haley by wide margins in South Carolina polls, suggesting his winning streak in the primary process will continue, despite Haley being a two-time governor of the state. A USA Today/Suffolk University poll released Tuesday found Trump leading his former United Nations ambassador nearly two-to-one, 63%-35%.

Trump is technically on track to reach his delegate count by next month. However, his legal troubles could provide some kind of opening to Haley by the August convention.

“So everyone’s wondering, is she going to drop out at noon going into her state where she’s behind 30 points, might not look great if she loses in her home state if she wants a political future,” Ainsley Earhardt said on Tueday. “But she does have this rally in Clemson. Would she cancel that if she does drop out?”

Steve Doocy predicted Haley stays in the race, citing Trump’s ongoing legal battles, Haley’s financial support, and the fact that she’s the only Republican capitalizing on the anti-Trump Republican vote.

“There are a lot of people who like an anti-Trump candidate, so it’s appealing to people because you’re wondering why are they putting so much money in there whereas she is behind. Ultimately, she can’t continue coming in second,” Doocy said.

He also noted that open primaries (where people from either party can vote) could help Haley as well, something Lawrence Jones said ruffles the feathers of and “ticks off” some Republicans.

Griff Jenkins put a slightly more positive spin on Haley staying in the race, noting that she may be behind in the polls, but polling also generally shows the public is not excited for a Trump vs. Joe Biden rematch.

Haley made the same point on Fox & Friends just a day earlier as she vowed to continue in the race against Trump.

“We can’t have two 80-year-old candidates be our only choices,” she said.
