Fox News has been promoting the government shutdown online as more of a “slimdown” than an actual shutdown. One anchor on a rival network took a shot at Fox on Wednesday morning for downplaying the serious impact of the shutdown.
If you needed a reminder, here’s how Fox rationalized the label yesterday:
What the Obama administration is portraying as a “shutdown” of the federal government — complete with signs posted at the entrances to government buildings, parks and monuments — is turning out to be more of a “slimdown,” as all but non-essential workers reported to their jobs Tuesday.
CNN’s Carol Costello called out Fox for what she believes to be the insensitivity of the term.
“Tell that to the roughly 800,000 federal workers going home without a paycheck while Congress plays politics with their jobs and continues to make money, I’m not so sure they would consider this a slimdown. I think they’d consider this a shutdown.”
