Fox News’ Howard Kurtz: Sacha Baron Cohen’s Palin Interview ‘Appalling,’ He Crossed a Line

Fox News’ Howard Kurtz lambasted Sacha Baron Cohen after Sarah Palin spoke out a few days ago about how he duped her.

Palin wrote on Facebook recently that the comedian was disguised as a disabled veteran. She said, “The disrespect of our US military and middle-class Americans via Cohen’s foreign commentaries under the guise of interview questions was perverse.”

She called on CBS and Showtime to donate all proceeds to a group to support American veterans.

And this morning, Kurtz said, “Sarah Palin and her daughter fly around the country to do this interview for what she thought was a serious documentary on veterans and she runs into this bozo dressed up as a disabled veteran. Kind of appalling, isn’t it?”

Fox News Headlines 24/7 reporter Carley Shimkus agreed and said, “What Sacha Baron Cohen did to Sarah Palin was horrible.”

She did say that Baron Cohen “loves” the outrage and all of the uproar here only helps him and his new Showtime series Who Is America?

Kurtz wondered if CBS “owe[s] the public some kind of response” to Baron Cohen’s “slimy tactics.”

Shimkus noted how the network wanted to keep all this a surprise before saying that “Sacha Baron Cohen was completely irrelevant two and a half weeks ago.”

Kurtz concluded the segment by saying, “I forgot he even excited. And I’m not against satire or even impersonation, but there’s a line there and he clearly careened right across it.”
