Kamala Harris: Trump’s Border Crisis ‘an Emergency of His Own Making,’ It’s ‘Simply Not True’

Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) says President Donald Trump is pushing a manufactured crisis with all of his recent talking points over illegal immigration and border security.

In an interview on Tuesday with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Harris was asked about the possibility that Trump will use his national address tonight to declare a national emergency and start building his border wall in spite of the government shutdown. Harris reacted by referring to Trump’s wall as a “vanity project” and saying the president is hurting federal workers with his refusal to reopen the government.

“It’s just simply not true,” Harris said of Trump’s possible crisis announcement. “It’s an emergency of his own creation.

Harris went on to say that the shutdown battle will be a historical benchmark for America’s democratic process and systems of checks and balances. Since Harris is also thinking about running for president in 2020, Stephanopoulos also used a portion of the interview to ask what she has to offer the White House.
