Maddow: Why Is Pelosi’s Leadership Being Challenged and Schumer’s Isn’t When Dems Just Took the House?

Rachel Maddow found it interesting tonight that after big Democratic gains in the House last week, Nancy Pelosi is being challenged by Democrats for leadership when Chuck Schumer isn’t.

“This, of course, would be a classic Democratic party move, right?” Maddow said. “The party loses seats in the Senate and so they make zero changes to their Senate leadership. At the same time, in the same election, on the same night, the party picks up more seats in the House than at any time since the immediate aftermath of Watergate, and the party responds to that by… maybe turfing out their leader in the House?”

“Nothing against or for Schumer or against or for Pelosi, but how does that math work?” Maddow asked.

There have been a number of Democrats calling for new blood in party leadership in the House, with some saying they won’t support Pelosi for Speaker.
