Mick Mulvaney Names Everything BUT ‘Border Wall’ as Solution to Border ‘Crisis’

Trump Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney appeared to undermine Donald Trump‘s emergency declaration when he was asked how to solves the migrant “crisis” at the southern border, and rattled off a list of solutions that did not include an emergency border wall.

On this week’s edition of Fox News Sunday, fill-in host Bill Hemmer talked about Trump’s threat to close the border with Mexico, and subsequent walk-back of that threat.

“Just to cut through on this issue, what is the plan to get out of this current crisis?” Hemmer asked.

“Number one, Mexico has to continue to do what they’re doing by preventing people from coming into Mexico, and then accepting people that we send them,” Mulvaney said. “Number two, the Northern Triangle countries have to prevent their own people from leaving.

“And the number three, and this is the one we don’t get a chance to talk about enough,” Mulvaney continued, “Congress must act, the laws are what is acting as this giant magnet for these illegal immigrants, and Congress has to chase those laws, to change those laws. Again, I think for the first time even Democrats are starting to recognize that.”

In February, Trump declared a national emergency in order to try and secure funding for the border wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for, but for which Mexico has not paid. Mulvaney’s failure to list the wall as a solution to the crisis that was Trump’s rationale for the emergency appears to be a significant oversight.
