In an exclusive interview with NBC News correspondent Chuck Todd, President Obama formally apologized to those Americans who have had their health insurance policies terminated since the Affordable Care Act went into effect. “I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me,” Obama said Thursday.
“We’ve got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and we are going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this,” the president continued.
Obama has come under fire in recent days for promises he made to Americans over several years that if they liked their current health care plans, they could keep them. He recently amended that statement to acknowledge that insurance companies have decided to terminate certain plans that don’t meet the standards under the health care law, even if they are required to replace them with more comprehensive ones.
