The woman at the center of Anthony Weiner‘s latest sexting scandal is speaking out today for the first time, in an interview with Inside Edition. Sydney Leathers, a 23-year-old Democrat from Indiana, said she was “shocked” that he “would be so foolish as to do the same thing all over again.”
“He was making these campaign promises that he’d totally changed,” Leathers said of his public persona, “that he was a better man now and had learned from his mistakes, and I am proof that that is not true.”
Asked if she felt at the time they were messaging that she “loved” Weiner, she replied, “maybe not loved, but I definitely cared about him.” After she talked to the former congressman on the phone for the last this past April, he texted her with a request to “hard delete all of our chats” ahead of his mayoral campaign announcement. She said Weiner was “absolutely” trying to deceive New York voters about his behavior.
The full interview with Leathers is expected to run on CNN during the 5pm ET hour Thursday afternoon.
