Rep. Ron Paul has openly advocated for an end to paper money, but during the Palmetto Freedom Forum hosted by Sen. Jim DeMint today elaborated he wants more than just a gold standard. After listing the federal powers he would protect (to efficiently answer “what would you downsize?”), Rep. Paul suggested gold and silver “competing currencies,” as opposed to a system where “the counterfeiters are over at the Federal Reserve.”

Being a campaigning politician is tricky. You want to be sure you speak to your base without alienating other potential voters. You need to make sure that your speeches are clear, concise, and memorable, without risking misinterpretation. And you want to make sure to use strong rhetoric and make firm promises to show that you are a real and competent leader, without making it seem like you’d sign off on the murder of, say, the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke. Such is the balance GOP presidential hopeful Rick Perry found himself tipping during his speech last night at an Iowa fundraiser.

Texas Congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul announced earlier today that he will not seek reelection for his seat in Congress in 2012. Speaking to Texan publication The Facts, he said he feels his chances of winning the presidency this time around are high enough that it is smarter to focus on the presidential race than pour resources into the Congressional one.

Law-breaking pop starlet Lindsay Lohan may have cultivated an image as more of a hedonist than a proper libertarian, but her recent Twitter comments against the Federal Reserve are winning her all sort of new fans. Latest on that list is Fox Business’ Freedom Watch host Judge Andrew Napolitano, who told Neil Cavuto on Fox News’ Your World today he “loved” Lohan and that she “makes a very good point” about the Fed.

America’s national debt is paramount among the concerns of American voters heading into 2012, and while a huge problem, Rep. Ron Paul debuted a quick fix for reducing the debt by at least $1.6 trillion in one shot. Chatting with Iowa radio host Jan Mickelson yesterday, Rep. Paul recommended the U.S. “declare bankruptcy” and reduce the national debt by dismantling the Federal Reserve, to which we owe upwards of a trillion dollars.

The Supreme Court today decided to uphold a previous ruling by the federal court of appeals ordering the Federal Reserve to reveal details about emergency lending by the central bank during the recent financial crisis. The Court’s ruling effectively rejects an appeal filed by the Clearing House Association, which had hoped to prevent such information from being disclosed to the public.

Republican Congressman Ron Paul may be Julian Assange‘s most loyal supporter in Congress. Visiting Fox Business’ Freedom Watch– a program on which Assange has been welcome several times– Rep. Controversial Florida Congressman Alan Grayson delivered one of his signature posterboard slideshows on the House floor yesterday, though this time he didn’t accuse the Republicans of wanting anyone to die. Instead, he discussed auditing the Federal Reserve, on which he is negotiating for bipartisan legislation with libertarian Rep. Ron Paul. And yesterday, he was the bearer of good news to Americans: congratulations, you now own the Red Roof Inn!

Yesterday, Mediaite offered a sneak peek at Fox News’ Griff Jenkins ambushing controversial Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fl) outside his office. The first thing I thought when I saw this was that Grayson’s repeated demands that Jenkins make an appointment constituted some particularly weak sauce. On last night’s O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly and Jenkins called Grayson out for hiding behind his press flack, and I couldn’t agree more.
