Bill O’Reilly: ‘This Is One Of The Most Uninformed Electorates In The Last 100 Years’

Video

Thursday night, The Factor‘s Bill O’Reilly invited Fox News contributor and Daily Beast columnist Kirsten Powers and Democratic strategist Mary Anne Marsh onto the show to discuss President Barack Obama‘s recent speech concerning rising gas prices.

Marsh advice to the President would be to bring in the heads of every major oil company to the White House and tell them “you owe it to your fellow Americans in this country that have allowed you to make all of this money.” But, why, O’Reilly asked, has he yet to do this?

RELATED: President Obama: Republicans Are ‘Licking Their Chops’ Over Rising Gas Prices

O’Reilly and Powers disagreed on whether and to what extent the President is for drilling. The host also added that people are looking for leadership right now, and they’re simply not finding it in Obama. And, speaking of voters…

Unfortunately, most of the voters — four and a half million watched this debate last night. That’s all. That’s all that watched it! More people watch the dopey Kardashians than are watching this stuff… I think this is one of the most uninformed electorates in the last hundred years.

Given that Faux News has spent the last decade feeding its viewers a steady diet of fear, fake outrage, trumped up scandals and 24/7 Obamaphobia, what did O’Reilly expect?

  • Anonymous

Wow O’Reilly telling the truth about the Republicant electorate.  I have a headache.

And the reason is, Bill? HMMMM

    ^^^^Speaking of faux outrage… ^^^^

So wait…O’Reilly wants Obama to bring the oil companies in and force them to undermine the market and lower their prices artificially????? Isn’t that the kind of crap that they were screaming Socialism over???

    He is right.  Completely uninformed.

  • Anonymous

O’Reilly’s 100% correct. Americans are absolutely the planet’s retards. Yeah, we’ve had a few brilliant people, Mark Twain, Frank Zappa, and a few others, but most Americans couldn’t graduate from Dumb Bastard University. But that’s what happens to a nation whose only real centuries long career has been killing.

Mo Fokker Is Absolutely Correct !!

But that’s even worse news for the other cable news outlets that FOX slays in the ratings.

Yeah Bill were all a bunch of idiots, because we don’t want to watch the 1000th GOP debate. Maybe if the slime moderators would ask prevalent questions instead of Stalinist approved talking points. Someone would tune in. Not one word about the fuel crisis!

    Lemme help Papa Bear here…
It’s not the most uninformed electorate in the last 100 years..it’s the opposite.
It’s because it’s like the 23rd debate in this primary, and by now,the electorate is well aware that these are the most uninformed GOP prez candidates in 100 years…so they’ve stopped listening.

They’ve stopped listening to the batshits Bill…that’s all…get over it.

And I am sure in the benevolent pure white race there are no white people who would vote against President Obama because he is black.I am sure it just doesn’t exist in the white race.

There has NEVER been a white person who never voted before but decided to register and vote against Senator Obama just so that he doesn’t become President Obama.

    Nope, never would happen.

  • Anonymous

Well, Newt isn’t really a catholic. He’s ashamed of his Southern Baptist background.

  • Anonymous

Au contraire! The American public are more informed than than this blowhard realizes. Example: The four TEA-GOP-Republican contenders are supporting the Keystone XL Pipeline as jobs production and additional energy independence. Here’s Ted Turner’s post on CNN. Ted Turner founder of CNN and Turner Broadcasting believe it is not in the nation’s interest to pursue the Keystone XL Pipeline. This is his post!
The route through the United States is actually the oil industry’s second choice: Transporting the oil west from Alberta to the Pacific Coast would be shorter and much cheaper, but Canadians concerned about environmental impacts and threats to native people’s lands are challenging that route, and with good reason. The existing and potential environmental impacts along the 2,000-mile pipeline route are profound. Tar sands oil production has already created more than 50 square miles of toxic waste ponds so massive they are visible from space. In Canada, extraction of tar sands crude requires clear-cutting thousands of acres of boreal forests, diverting rivers, strip-mining, and destroying critical habitat for some of the largest populations of woodland caribou left in the world. Thirty percent of North America’s songbirds and 40% of its waterfowl rely on the wetlands and waterways of the boreal forest. Closer to home, the pipeline presents an immediate threat to drinking water for millions and to the livelihood of farmers and ranchers. The existing Keystone 1 tar sands pipeline has spilled more than 12 times in its first 12 months of operation. In July 2010, a spill of more than 800,000 gallons of toxic tar sands crude from the Enbridge pipeline contaminated more than 30 miles of water and shoreline along the Kalamazoo River in Michigan. This created public health problems, threats to groundwater, widespread fish kills, and destruction of wildlife habitat, contamination that is still being cleaned up at a cost exceeding $700 million. Meanwhile, the pro-pipeline lobby is pushing the public to accept Keystone XL with fuzzy promises about jobs and security. ButTransCanada’s jobs claims have been widely discredited, and there is no guarantee the oil transported by the pipeline would remain in the United States for sale. Now Congress, by means of an amendment to the highway bill, is pushing to wrest decision-making control over the project from the administration, bypass final environmental review, and force approval of the pipeline before the final route has even been determined. Congress should not be in the business of skirting the rules and ramming through a polluting project like the Keystone XL pipeline.

  • Hout Bosques

Well, the winger attack on Obama starting a War On Da Pope is kind of done – meaning: overdone to the point it’s washing back into the GOP contestants’ gullets & causing them to drown in poll santorum; so – time to go for a change pace, an oldie but goodie from the Way Back Machine of …

the Carter administration, which just so happened was in office at the first point past peak U.S. oil production (1973-4) which rendered that the first time in, like, forever where your brown types in the Middle East oilopolies were able to take some serious cash money hostages from the U.S. economy.   I got a question: This has happened a lot over the almost 4 decades since then, recurring like sunspot activity. S0 – has there even been one single incident of a US president, or a US Congress, or anyone in the US government, or anyone in ANY government, doing even one single thing to stop or alleviate one of these oil & gas price runs while they were underway? Anyone? Bueller?

Answer: Nope. If anyone COULD do something, it would be Congress. But it’s pointless. All the government can do when this shit hits the fan is release reserves onto the open market to water down the world price. But that lasts like, oh, an hour before some Saudi prince or Kuwaiti emir or U-bekki-bekki-stan-stan dictator rakes in a big payoff by the speculators to turn down the spigots & get out of the way of those wearing the oil futures big boy pants.

Anyone see why? It’s … anyone here? … it’s because in a futures market, folks bet for & against levels of price increases in the … anyone? in the future. And another word for future, because it hasn’t happened yet, and maybe is a minute from now but maybe LONGER away in the future is called … anyone? It’s called betting LONG. And since some very wealthy gambling type folks often bet BIG long, it’s in their interests to get the CURRENT market to SHORT current demand – just a bit, it doesn’t take much; just enough to get reflected in the world spot price – so that those FUTURE bets they made in the PAST, which is now the PRESENT, don’t bite them in the butt.

So what seems to have happened here is that some time back, maybe as far back as 2008, some very optimistic or very pessimistic, depends how you see things, politicized betting chappies WENT BIG LONG on future inflation. I mean, it’s really no surprise: the wingers & GOP have been going ga-ga over the inflationistas non-stop ever since Obama went public with his STIM package in the spring of 2009. But … what happens when inflation JUST. WON’T. COME?

Ah – what you do then is MAKE it come. This, folks, is Masters of the F**king Universe on the world’s commodity prices thinking in 2009 and for months even years thereafter, right up to last year’s battle over the debt ceiling, that 1990s Argentina level runaway inflation was inevitable, so … they bet big long on oil & gas futures. But … the inflationistas did NOT come; inflation barely caused a whisper of a tease in commodities. So – someone was going to get a serious hurt on.

To the point tho: anyone here have any idea what Obama could possibly do? Cuz seriously folks, other than releasing strategic reserves, there’s nada anyone could do.

You appear to be one of the uninformed electorate.  Your selective hearing seems to think O’Reilly was talking about republicans.  He wasn’t.

We saw the “uninformed electorate” yesterday.  Dumb people who have no idea what our national debt is,  What Obama is doing, not doing, and have no idea what’s going on.

There have been so many people who attempted to “educate” O’Reilly regarding oil and gas.  He hasn’t a freaking clue – but thinks he has the answers.  Any talking head who attempts to educate him about it is shut down by Bill’s idiotic nonsense.  I don’t think he even realizes that he’s advocating a state controlled industry.

I remember Cavuto attempting to educate him – didn’t work.

It’s amazing – I assume O’Reilly has a good accountant, otherwise he’d be broke.  Not a genius in the money market.  In fact he sounds like Hugo.

Many times when I’ve listened to him go bat shit about it – wanted to slap some sense into him, but whatever….he just doesn’t get it.

Im really baffled I know you guys have posted similar things, but why isn’t Bill for the free market in this case? He wants the government to get involved? Im confused. Natural gas prices are way down why doesn’t he talk about that? Im not clear why they don’t say that the president doesn’t have a damn thing to do with gas prices. Once again its a world market, I don’t hear them screaming for the gold prices to come down. When the price of gas goes up here it goes up everywhere, we are not the only country affected by this, its so bizarre they try and dumb down so much shit.

I am not fan of Crapputo either but you mention a good example.

Billdo brings his coworkers or even worse wingnutz to fill his own and give them air time, then he always has the last word to make himself look reasonable.

According to Billdo, nobody can make outrageous claims in his show or under his watch, except when Billdo himself is doing it.

Bill has flipped his freaking lid. Obama has absolutely been a nightmare to those who would get oil flowing and he wants to blame the freaking oil companies. He even used the lib line about how long it would take for new oil to come online. If we had acted in years past instead of going for this bs, there would be more oil in the pipeline now. This has to be a joke.

  • Anonymous

He has pumped more oil than Bush ever did, and wayyyyyy more natural gas. Its a world market, what don’t you get. Oil is a commodity just like any other. The price goes up world wide not just in the usa. Every country pays more for a barrel of oil. Why don’t you understand that?

  • Anonymous

What part of the more there is, the less it costs is over your head?? I do agree that we should slap a hefty tax on exported oil.Obama is the guy who openly said he wanted gas prices up to force development of his hamster/treadmill green power. His energy secretary said he wanted European gas prices here , and they are working hard to achieve that.

    How Earth worshiping libs” think”

WALLACE: In that regard, in 2008 you
supported ramping up gas prices to coax Americans into more green energy
cars and other uses, being more fuel efficient. You said this — and
let’s put it on the screen — “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost
the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.” Where it is now more
than $10 a gallon. In that sense, is the gas spike an opportunity for more green energy?

    CHU: Well,
what I said — what I’m doing since I became secretary of Energy has been
quite clear. What I have been doing is developing methods to take the
pain out of high gas prices.

We have been very focused in the Department of Energy on that.
And, in fact, the entire administration has been very focused on that.

So, the increasing of the mileage standards is one way of doing
this. A very concerted effort in electric vehicles, where we think
within reach, within maybe four or five years, we could be testing
batteries that can allow us to go 200, 300 miles on a single charge in a
    mass-marketed car.

WALLACE: I understand all that, and
that is certainly part of your effort. But is the spike in gas prices —
does that also help in making us more energy-efficient?

    CHU: Well,
the recent spike in gasoline prices following that huge spike in 2007,
2008 is a reminder to Americans that the price of gasoline over the long
haul should be expected to go up just because of supply and demand
issues. And so we see this in the buying habits of Americans as they
make choices for the next car they buy.

how do you explain natural gas prices way down. He’s pumping more Oil. Demand is higher. He’s pumping more oil than Bush ever did how many times do I have to say that. Other countries are using more. Other countries are also paying the same amount, our prices are lower than theirs due to less taxes on gas. This is just silly dude. Its all a political game.

and Oreillys audience is the most uninformed in the history of television. ’

  • Anonymous

Why do you think that the fact that the abundance of natural gas that  pushes the price down on that resource has anything to do with pumping more oil??

  • Anonymous

Ken think of it this way. Right now thousands of oil workers are working in this country because the price of oil is high. If it goes to a buck fifty a gallon, those wells get capped and those people lose their jobs. Your not seeing the big picture. The fact that oil is high allows the usa oil drillers to work. Right now natural gas is so cheap because we have figured out a way to get it out of the ground(franking) easy and cheap. Problem is they are actually becoming a victim of their own success, because now its so cheap and there is so much excess, without a cost effective way to export it that they are going to start capping their wells. Ive said this before high prices of oil are bad and good. They are good because states like texas, new mexico, the gulf states, Alaska, are reaping the rewards because so much drilling is going on. They are bad because it hurts businesses. Watch gold rush to get an idea how commodity mining works. Those guys are up in Alaska pulling gold out of the ground because its worth it. If and when it drops to 800 bucks an ounce it wont be worth it anymore and those guys will be out of a job. Your side try and simplify this shit beyond belief.

The administration and the Nobel peace prize laureate cannot ‘talk’ and ‘negotiate’ with Iran about its weapons program and is sure as hell scared hapless of talking to Netanyahu.

But until that happens, the consumer has to pay at the pump and oil companies have to be called to the white house and be made to subsidize this administration’s biggest area of failure after failure, diplomacy

Enjoy the high gas prices.  It’s the “magic of the market place”.

Actually, it is the market that sets the price of oil, not Barack Obama and not George W. Bush.

Drill baby, drill has worked for natural gas.  The price has collapsed, due to intense drilling in the shales of Pennsylvania and other places, and now stands at $2.50 per thousand cubic feet, a ten year low.

They are also drilling like crazy in the shale oil plays of North Dakota and Texas.  Is the price collapsing?  Not so much.

There are 800 million people in China that want to drive a car just like you and me.  The competition could be tough.

  • Anonymous

You’re right prices would go down if the supply were increased.  Since more than 80% of the world’s reserves are in the Middle East, you might have to talk to the Arabs about that “Drill baby drill” thing.

There is plenty of drilling for oil going on in the U.S. right now, notably in the Bakken shale of North Dakota and the Eagle Ford shale in south Texas.

It will help, but it isn’t going to change the world supply and demand balance.  Get over that whole $2.50 gas thing.  It isn’t coming back with hundreds of millions of Chinese and Indians wanting to buy gas now.

High prices is what will eventually get us off of oil.  That’s how economics work.  Oil is a finite resource and we’re reaching the limit.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, because they get filibustered to death.

  • Anonymous

People need to quit saying oil and gas.  Oil is the problem.  Natural gas is dirt cheap, about $15 a barrel on an eqivalent btu basis to oil.

The problem is we use too much oil and not enough natural gas.  We have huge supplies of natural gas already developed in the U.S.

Bill, I take GREAT exception to this comment. First, and I’m sure you would agree, propaganda of the MSM make it exceedingly difficult to come by real facts and figures…you know this as well as anybody. Secondly, ask around Bill, despite that the media makes it difficult, there are now millions of Americans who devote enormous time and energy doing our own research and educating ourselves. Not just current events but looking back to the Federalist Papers, our Constitution w/the Founders original intent on up, We The People are more engaged now than ever.  Perhaps the ignorance of the minority of folks seems overwhelming but, I assure you, the tail is no longer “wagging the dog.”  The recent online study course on our Constitution by Hillsdale College brought unprecidented enrollments…they were actually having to turn people away and scheduling repeat courses to accommodate requests.
Please don’t make he mistake of others,,,because the minority Left has a bigger platform (along with loud mouths) does not mean We the People are asleep at the switch. We are awake, aware, constantly educating ourselves. The Left would like for you to believe the Tea Party movement is falling by the wayside…ABSOLUTELY WRONG.  We are growing, organizing and working harder with each passing day.

  • WiddleBabyDanielson

     Wow.
Spending during Reagan’s two terms (FY 1981-88) averaged 22.4% GDP, well
above the 20.6% GDP average from 1971 to 2009. In addition, the public
debt rose from 26% GDP in 1980 to 41% GDP by 1988.

During the Reagan administration, federal receipts grew at an average
rate of 8.2% (2.5% attributed to higher Social Security receipts, 4.5%
inflation, 1.0% population growth), and federal outlays grew at an
    annual rate of 7.1%.

And then there is Bush 1  – Read my lip, no new taxes.

And don’t forget Bush 2 – well, how can we, the economy still hasn’t recovered.

They have several liberals and left wingers on regularly every week.  The thing about the other news outlets is that they are such water carriers for the current administration.  They surely didn’t do it for George Bush.  When gas prices went up in 2008 and by the way Mr. Obama stated at that time he was glad that they did, the news outlets gladly criticized the President.  Now they report it less and try to point to the actual reasons for the high prices when they do report on it.
